I'll be at my papas for an early Christmas celebration so I can't guarantee I'll make it, but I will try. So if I am able to log on, forgive me if I'm a little high on turkey and wine. I've been wondering how that chat room would hold up with a lot of participants. This trial run is a very good idea.

Just wanted to say thank you to all who came in for the test. As expected we had lots of laughs, but we did learn something as well. Our chat board does not show who is typing a message, like msn messenger etc., so it can get a bit confusing to say the least. By the time the band comes in we hope to have a plan to keep it simple, after all we don't want to scare them away ;D

I had no problems with seeing who wrote the messages.

Thanks for the reply guys, actually what i mean is,on some chat boards there is a little graphic that appears that would say for example 'rocky is typing a message'. This alerts others to wait till the mesage is sent by 'rocky'. This prevents a slew of dialogue from appearing at the same time. Its a nice feature, but we will be fine.

Rocky? Is there a way of logging the discussions in the chatroom? Or will we have to cut and paste every sentence written?

You can't c&p from chat room Irc would be the best way to do this, but everybody don't have it

No c&p??? argh.. i agree that IRC would be a good option, but as many other options it requires installation of software...

IRC would probably be the best format. We could log the chat, and we could kick or ban anybody who refuses to adhere to whatever guidelines we have. Plus there wouldn't any stability issues related to too many users at once.
On the minus side, like you say, milk and toppler, it's a program some would have to download (myself included), although it's not a big download. The band would have to have it as well, and it's probably best to keep things as easy as possible for them. We'd have to make sure people know about the program, the server, and the room. Too much perhaps. Maybe what we already have wins out because of simplicity. Still I'd love to see it on IRC.

Tidy: There are java based irc clients. But i don't know how stable they are.

Sorry I missed it, but you know where I was.... Sounds like it went pretty well! As Rocky said, I think it would be good if there was a "host" or something, distrubuting the questions. Otherwise it would be a chaos of questions flying in there! What do you guys think? Just let everything go, or something else?
