Here they are, I'll add Damons' answers as soon as I get them! ENJOY!
When u guys write these terrific songs that we all enjoy so very much, do all band members get involved in this process, for it must be a major task to put it all together?
Rocky, Canada
Danko: Yeah, we all get together at our space and jam them out. Maybe I'll come in with a riff and bounce it off JC. Maybe Damon will start a drum beat that sets off a bass line. For the songs to actually make the record they had to have passed the three cooks in the kitchen. As far as the lyrics are concerned, I write them 'cause I've got to sing them every night and it's gotta come from a real place.
JC: It is a process that changes from song to song, could be a guitar riff, drum beat, bassline, or a song lyric to start the process. From there it's always best to not think about it too much, and voila.
How many songs did you record for WSB. And how many songs didn't make the cut?
ToppleR, Sweden
Danko: We recorded 15 songs so 3 are gonna show up as B-sides etc. They are "I Like To Ball", "Woogie Boogie", and "Take Me Our On A Stretcher".
JC: 15,out of which 12 on the record and 3 as b-sides
Do you still find the energy for a good aftershow party since its been a long tour... and what actually happens in the hotel rooms after the show?
gladiator vkivalta, FInland
Danko: Well the show in Helsinki we were all sick. I was a day past getting over the flu and I still could hardly walk. JC and Damon were on the cusp of getting theirs. I hope no one caught on at the show. Besides the Amsterdam show on this last tour, Helsinki was the hardest show I've ever had to play. Still played hard and kicked my own ass. But getting back to after show energy...as the singer in this band, with a 43 date schedule in 46 days there is no fu*king around. A lot of people are counting on you and your voice. If I was rapping then maybe I'd indulge a little bit more. Singing is something that to do correctly requires discipline, and responsibility...2 words that don't get used too often in Rock 'n' Roll. Ha Ha Ha. But I'm off tour now so...Whoop Dee Doo!!!
JC: I like to find refuge in movies and playstation. If i drink enough it's always a party, unfortunate are the ones around me though. In the hotel, usually I check my mail with my laptop and try to rest.
Even though you guys are considered by many to be the best pure rock band in existence, you somehow get shutout time after time at award shows. We all know the reason, you refuse to 'sell out' like so many others, we admire that in you, how do you feel about this aspect of the biz?
Rocky
Danko: Oh Rocky...don't get me started on the (Canadian Music) "biz". I won't be able to shut up. I get so angry sometimes that I think I wanna do "The Cross Pt. 2".
JC: People like awards and recognition. at these functions you can drink a lot and deal with the people in the biz.
You guys ever did a "bad" gig?
Jackyfromjudy, Netherlands
Danko: I'm sure if you ask some people we did. I know there are certain times where we all know we have...or one of us is told we have. We've played so many shows I can't really remember...The Exclaim party in Toronto in '98 was pretty horrible. My guitar fu*ked up...I'm sure there are more. But we are our biggest critics.
JC: I remeber I had a fever in Bergen and in between songs i was puking and sweating cold. It wasn't fun to play that day, but Corey our soundman helped me thru it as he laughed at me from the sound board.
Ever thought of expanding into a 4 member band, or does this formation suites you better?
Jackyfromjudy
Danko: We've talked about it. But nah...you tell me.
JC: Talked about it ... But 3 pieces are better.
Danko, during "Mountain" you get all fu*ked up, what the hell are you thinkin' of?
Jackyfromjudy
Danko: Some Mother fu*king crazy shit.
Damon, you play on a very small drum-kit, any philosophy behind that?
Jackyfromjudy
Damon: That's a great question!!! The truth is................ I play a small kit for a few reasons...it looks good, it makes me play harder and more straight-ahead, and there is a lot less stuff to carry and pack up!! I also started playing that way because drums are pretty expensive, and I couldn't afford to buy a big, new kit!
I want to add a special Thank You to Aija, and all the people for making this question board possible, and showing an interest in our band. It is the Fans that make us want to keep coming back to whatever country it is that you live in......We will see you soon!
Do you have any plans on selling out? And if so, when will the Danko Jones action figures be available.
ToppleR
Danko: If action figures are selling out then call me a sell out. Todd McFarlene still hasn't returned my calls!!!
JC: I want JC ninja action dolls. Where my bass turns into a samurai sword and I can cut off the heads of ....
I saw you live in your first ever performance in Portugal. How do you feel when you're going to perform in a totally new country ? Do you get even a little nervous regarding the "unknown" or you trust in your amazing kick-ass live performances that get "everyone on your side" ?
Marciana, Portugal
Danko: First off that gig was awesome! The people that take care of us in Portugal made us feel very at home and comfortable before the gig and that's very important. I love playing new places and you get in a very competitive frame of mind and definitely are more aware that you must "Destroy"...plus the women are so beautiful over there...that helps.
JC: It's a total rush to play in a new country. I always do get nervous before a gig, but if it is a new place it doesn't make it worse.
What was the best gig you ever did and why ?
Marciana
Danko: Haven't played the best gig...yet.
JC: Still haven't played it
How do you feel about the whole Sex, Drugs & Rock n' Roll ? Do the three of them really have to go hand in hand, or do you guys stick with just the sex & the rock n' roll ?
Marciana
Danko: I can only speak for myself but it's only Sex and Rock'n'Roll for me. And once again I am only speaking for myself. But I don't give a fu*k what the next guy is doing...go for it. Rock and Roll is all about freedom and you are free to do whatever you want in my book...but so am I. When I was young I was fortunate enough to have gotten into bands like Minor Threat, Youth Of Today, and 7 Seconds etc. they kind of cemented my mindset.
JC: I like them all. You can do all three at once, or one at a time. Depending on the potency of the mixture, so be careful.
(for danko) When was the song Mountain "born", and when was the first time you performed your mantra "this heart gets stronger, this skin get thicker, this mouth get louder" ? Are you aware that it makes people's jaw fall ?
Marciana
Danko: That song's full title is...Bring On The Mountain (Become The Mountain). We just write "Mountain" on our setlists for short. It's a song that's been with us since the first year of the band's existence but it's grown into this long song through time. I have early recordings where the song is barely 2 minutes long!! Over the years you experience "stuff" and that "stuff" found it's way into that song.
When will you release a Danko Jones live DVD ? Maybe with the whole video collection there as bonus if that's not too much to ask ?
Marciana
Danko: Definitely a DVD is in the works.
JC: Maybe next year in 2005. WE have so much footage we need to look at and put together. Sit tight it's coming
What are your touring plans for 2004?
Tidyman, Canada
Danko: Well it's time off for now but once February hits I think it's full steam 'til September but JC should answer this question....
JC: Mid to late February and March we will play in Canada and the US. From April to August we will be in Europe. However no solid plans are made yet, some summer festivals confirmed but we can't announce them yet!!!
