I assume many of you are familiar with the live coverversion of "I Want To" that floats around the web. Right at the start, Danko insists that it's a Ray Charles song and not, as someone said backstage, one by Joe Tex.
Since I started to enjoy Joe Tex lately, I wondered who actually came up with the song. I'm pretty sure Joe Tex sung/recorded it, I have no idea if he actually wrote it though or if there is a Ray Charles version.
anyone got any clue?

My online searches found that Joe Tex wrote and recorded a song called I Want To (Do Everything For You), which was covered by a number of artists none of which were Ray Charles.
The only info I can find that Ray Charles composed a song called I Want To is on a record called The Get Down Imperative by a Detroit garage rock band called the King Sound Quartet. On that song, Ray Charles is listed as the composer, but I can't find any evidence that Ray Charles actually every recorded the song himself.

I could be mistaken here... but doesnt the beginning of the Danko Jones cover start with Danko saying something to the effect... insist this is a Joe Tex song, but I think its ABOUT Mr. Charles.
Meaning the song is about him... not recorded...
Could be way off.
Hey Tidy, is there anyway to get my old user name back? I had my profile all good to go and everything (sorry this part is off topic).
