The Juno Awards nominees will be announced on Feb.11. Last year Danko Jones was nominated for best rock band and best rock album with BAL which of course didn't win (hey this is Canada : but amazingly it did take an award for best video post- production. Hopefully the outstanding WSB will win some honors this year. Should it or the band get nominated (not a given in this country) we should fire up the old chat room on Juno day and throw a big supporting party. Here is the latest release regarding this year's show, oh goodie we get to see Nickleback yet again I think Danko Jones will be in Sweden on that date (Apr.4th) so unfortunately we will not get to enjoy them.

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) together with CTV announced today that Barenaked Ladies, Michael Bublé, Nelly Furtado, Avril Lavigne, Sarah McLachlan and Nickelback will perform at the 2004 JUNO Awards, Canada's Music Awards. CTV will broadcast the Awards, live from Edmonton's Rexall Place, on Sunday, April 4 at 8 p.m. / 9 p.m. Atlantic Time.
These six Canadian artists and bands represent a cross-section of some of the very best in today's music industry. CARAS and CTV also confirmed today that more artists will be added to the performance roster at a later date.

Here is a scathing review from Chart Attack magazine from last years show...Canadian, eh
Like the rest of Canada, Chart publisher Edward Skira tuned into Sunday night’s Juno ceremony. Here’s what he thought:
The Juno Awards broadcast reinforced in my mind why the Canadian music industry is in trouble. We don't seem to know anything about show business and the mystique of stardom. The Junos were a joke, and an embarrassing one at that. Here are just a few reasons why:
The Hockey References
Isn't this event about music? Why obscure this fact by playing up the hockey card at every chance? Hearing the audience chant "Go Sens go!" doesn't make me want to go out and buy a CD. Would the audience at the Grammys in L.A. start shouting "Go Lakers go?"
Ottawa Boosting
As above, this the CANADIAN MUSIC awards. Not as bad as St. John's last year for localism, but why make it into a pro-Ottawa rally? It's supposed to be about the music!
TV Show Production
What's with the camera catching another camera crew during the OLP set? Why did everyone tall have to bend down awkwardly to reach the microphone? During the Shania/Swollen Members skit why were all the seats behind them empty? Don't we know about stand-ins to make sure the event looks full? Don't we have professional directors and producers in Canada that can shoot a variety show like this?
Seating
Why did Tom Cochrane have to walk a mile to receive his award? They knew he was going to receive the award, so why didn't they seat him closer or even have him backstage? We all knew Avril was going to win, so why was she some six seats in from the aisle? And what's up with Shania walking on stage to accept an award that was being handed out on the floor of the arena? Couldn't someone have been there to lead her in the right direction? The same thing happened at last year's show. Don't we learn from our mistakes?
Red Carpet
Couldn't they have packed in more people or tightened the camera shot to make it look like there were many more people there to watch? Instead it looked like what it was — a huge parking lot with a few fans looking on.
Songwriter Of The Year
How could Avril and Shania be up for songwriter of the year when they had collaborators? Why was all of Nickelback on stage if Chad was the songwriter of the year? Or were all four Nickelback members songwriter of the year?
The Presenters
A large number of presenters had no clue what they were doing. What was up with Doc Walker or Theory Of A Deadman? Were they not scripted? Did the teleprompters not work? How many times did Jeff Healey have to joke about his blindness before it ran stale? Why did Kathleen Edwards go off script? It was embarrassing.
Tom Cochrane and Red Ryder Reunion
If it was meant to be a reunion, where was a Red Ryder? I saw more of Molly Johnson on stage than Red Ryder. And why no "Lunatic Fringe?" Some reunion.
And finally the most important criticism,
The Stars Themselves
Do musicians not have managers or publicists who can tell them that this is a big event and that they may want to dress the part of stars? Other than a few like Shania and Sarah Slean, they looked like they just walked in off the street. And what was up with Raine and Chantal walking up the red carpet with their dog? Unbelievable!
Watch the Grammys, MTV Awards, Brit Awards or even the MuchMusic Awards and you see how it should be done. These shows are star-studded, classy, glitzy and professionally executed events. They sell the glamour of the music and the stars to the masses. Image is an important part of the music industry. Both the Juno Awards show and the stars showed just how horrible we are at promoting our stars in this country. We don't even know how to produce an EVENT, so how the heck can we save the Canadian music industry?
