About a week or 2 ago there was a program on Much titled "Hot or Not" where they listed various artists (mainly pop artists) and rated whether they were "hot or not." Now in the Hip Hop category they had Busta Rhymes vs. Nelly. In which the opinion of the masses was: Nelly = HOT, Busta=NOT. This rating rattled my brain a little. For 1. How can u even put Busta in the same category with Nelly? 2. How is Nelly "hot" and Busta "not"? These people are seriously confused. Busta was around when hip hop was still hip hop, consistently throwing down fresh new beatz and rhymes, making everyone nod their heads to his innovations. He took risks, came out with zany videos and a style all of his own. Nelly wears a band-aid on his face, sings about shoes and "pimp juice" and dances around with Nsync. Perhaps Mr. Rhymes is getting on in years, but still, are we going to substitute talent for age? Nelly to me is pure garbage. He shoulda stuck to playing baseball and left the Hip Hop to the people with potential.

True, but you and I both know that is never going to happen, because not enough old farts like us actually tune into Much everyday, but the 13 yr old kiddies do. SO I understand their programming, I just really don't agree with it. And then there's MuchMore, which really to me isn't much better. I'm surprised they don't have videos of Anne Murray on there!I guess that's why all the specialty channels were invented, so people who don't enjoy kiddie programming all the time can pay for what they enjoy, like loud, vibe, etc. But i'm bitter and poor and I like to complain anyway..lol

The people who are seriously into the hip hop game know Busta is a superior mc to nelly. To me thats whats important. Nelly is popular for some of the same reasons Britney Spears was. Not so much the music but also the heart-throb factor. I cant understand it man the guy is an ugly mutha! lol

My 16 year old listened to nothing but Korn and Blink 182 for a couple of years. Garbage if you ask me. Now he's learning guitar and he's getting turned on to AC DC. My current 14 year old listens to worst kind of rap crap imaginable (Eminen primarily) . Hoepfully, the former proves there's hope for the latter:)

Alright, u guys are gonna jump on my butt for this one, but it has to be said. I want to talk about Eminem. White rappers in general have a bad rap since the whole vanilla ice deal, but let's not come down on him too hard. The boy can write, and there is nobody in this world that can argue that. While I don't agree with a lot of his content i.e. killing his wife, blah blah blah, some of his stuff is really funny. Like "my fault" that song is a joke and a half! His title tracks get constant rotation on t.v and radio stations, which is probably the reason we hate him so much, he's played out, and some of his stuff is downright whiney! But I can understand, when I write, my feelings down, they come out as they are at the time, and if I'm so damn angry I want to kill someone, I'll probably write that. But it isn't kewl when a 10 yr old is goin around singing "Let's put mommy in the trunk" and thinkin it's the right thing to do. It's kind of like cartoons, let your kids watch and listen, but make sure they know the difference between reality and make believe. There is a lot of violent content in a lot of music, television and real life, we can't just go around pointing fingers at artists and labels, we should look in our own glass houses before we start throwing stones!

thanx for that spun. Actually i don't really mind eminem, but whenever my daughter spins his cd's i get a little embarrased, but the i say what the heck, go with the it so i usually end up nodding my head a tapping my toes. ;D Bad language dominates the world now, its pointless trying to avoid it. But man, his stuff is sooo ripe.

Personally, he offends me. I think he's a homophobic, racist, anarchistic, sexist, illiterate piece of trailer park trash. Aside from that of course he seems perfectly fine. Doh! Did I say that out loud?

Kevin the ages of our youngsters and their music tastes are almost identical. My 16 year old son who plays sax despises hip-hop and especially the 8 mile guy. We certainly can't read anything into this, but the younger ones do seem to get caught up more with whatever is hyped to the max. It wasn't that long ago that we were eating Santa's milk and cookies

Honestly until someone practices what they preach I wouldn't label them. I am not saying he is one of my favs, but really...can u put lyrics together like that? If u listen to what is behind the swearing, and anger, it isn't all bad. It really isn't, I'm sure when he gets older and more mature he'll ease up a bit. Nobody is angry forever. Look how people labelled Marilyn Manson...if u ever heard this guy in an interview, he is a very, very intelligent man. As I'm sure Eminem is. They know what sells...and obviously they want to make money, look at the business they're in! I have listened to his music, I don't bash gay people, I don't cause mass hysteria and destruction. I'm not out raping and killing..heck I don't even swear unless I'm very angry! If u let someone get under your skin they will and they win. Really I don't know how people can get so angry over music - it's music, if u don't like someone - turn off the radio! I have listened to hip hop all my life, and guess what - I'm an upstanding citizen. I have never gotten into any trouble with the law, and I offer my seat to senior citizens on public transit. Music doesnt create the person u are or who u will be, you do! If people want to to be violent and hate mongers well they are going to do it regardless. It's just like when they blamed that teen suicide on Judas Priest or whatever...Eminem doesnt cause anarchy and hate - people cause their own suffering!!! So to label him this and that is absurd! If u go around pointing fingers and calling names - aren't u a part of the vicious hate cycle as well?
