Danko Jones third and final stop in the Netherlands was Eindhoven. This is a show Loudmouth and I were not originally planning to go to because it was inconvenient for us to get to without a car. That was until Loes and Beast invited us along in
their car.
Not only that, they invited us to go to their new apartment a little early for dinner before the show! Loes cooked an amazing pasta and I have to thank her and Beast again for their hospitality.
I snapped this picture from Loes & Beast's apartment because it was just so....Dutch! The tulips, the windmill...
We drove to Eindhoven and made our way to the Effenaar, a newly rebuilt venue. You could still see remnants of the old Effenaar right beside it, still in the process of being razed.
For some reason, we forgot to get a shot of the venue from the outside, but I DID think to snap this shot.
See this thing that looks like a sink?
That's the urinal.
No word of a lie. Shout-out to the designers for going with this ultra-creepy open concept pisser. It's almost as creepy as somebody who takes pictures in men's washrooms...
We were a little late getting there (thanks to a labyrinth of construction zones) so when we walked in, Quit Your Dayjob was in the middle of their set. I really enjoyed these guys at all three shows.
Brant Bjork & The Bros. Super cool, like NattyDread said.
The crowd right before Danko Jones took the stage. They sold out all three Holland shows and they were all fairly large venues compared to what they play here in Canada. They're doing a full headlining tour, with a big merch section that almost seemed like a Danko Jones store! Like I told Danko in Utrecht--it is a different scene over there, man. Never again will I ever feel the least bit of resentment towards Danko Jones for showing favoritism to Europe over North America. It was a real eye-opener for me. They simply could not do a headlining tour like this over here.
Water break. We sweat blood.
The funniest part of the show came right after they played
Woogie Boogie. Danko told the crowd he was going to try something new, a "new direction for Danko Jones." He started to ad-lib a guitar balad with cheesy lyrics and soft vocals. This went on for a good 30 or 40 seconds (and had everybody including his band-mates laughing) until somebody in the audience threw a cup of beer at Danko. It hit him in the hand/guitar and leg, bringing the offending ballad to an abrupt halt. (JC found this even funnier.) Danko feigned anger, pointed in the direction of the throw and said "I've got something just for you" before launching into
The Cross.
They finished out the set with
Mountain and Danko gave me another really cool shout-out during the song. It was another kick-ass show and a great capper to the hat trick. Three shows in three nights!
The set list was identical to Utrecht:
I'm Alive And On Fire
Sticky Situation
Forget My Name
Bounce
First Date
Way To My Heart
Wait A Minute
Don't Fall In Love
Baby Hates Me
Invisible
Woogie Boogie
The Cross
The Finger
Play The Blues
Suicide Woman
She's Drugs
Lovercall
Sleep Is The Enemy
Love Is Unkind

MountainAfter the set, we met up with the other board members for a final goodbye.
One last shot with the flag. Here are me and Loudmouth with Yeahbaby and Rowan. The guy in the middle is Rowan's brother.
We also met and got pictures with Enomar, who made the drive from Germany, and Dan Cornelius. Those pics are on Beast's camera, and we'll have to wait until Beast and Loes are online before we can see them.
Overall it was a great show and a great time.
I don't want this to sound like an awards ceremony or something, but I'm gonna.
I want to thank all the Dutch Danko Army - Loes & Beast, Fatty98, Remcor 2000, Ghost, Bram, Bertus1987, Yeahbaby & Rowan, and Philthy. Also Enomar and of course that double-threat of niceness and hotness, Milkei aka Aija. Thanks everyone for being so cool and showing me a fun time. It was great meeting all of you.
Also thanks to the three members of Danko Jones, who were all really cool. You guys are finally getting the success you deserve. Thanks for making those shows so memorable.
And most importantly, thanks to Loudmouth. You were the best host/tour guide/umm..other stuff..
that a guy could hope for.
