Yeah the show was a blast, and it was one of the best (re: noisiest) Toronto crowds I've ever been a part of. And the Opera House is a cool venue. No complaints about it at all. Only thing that sucked about the night is that I forgot my friggin camera. So for the first time in forever, I have no pictures to go along with my recap. But the crowd was into it and Danko Jones were great. They did the full Sleep Is The Enemy tour setlist that they set Europe ablaze with. It starts with I'm Alive And On Fire and ends with Sleep Is The Enemy and Love Is Unkind, followed by Mountain for the encore. Danko also did that thing where he pretends to play a ballad ("from my forthcoming solo record to be released on a Toronto indie-rock label") while JC encourages the crowd to boo him by giving the thumbs down. When the crowd boos, Danko curses us in mock anger, before ripping into that Cross/ Finger double-shot that never ceases to kick my ass. The band just seems like they're having a lot of fun these days. The Leather Uppers were great too. So much fun. I bought their new CD and it's good. My roomate says it reminds him of Richard Hell. I also bought a new white Sleep Is The Enemy shirt and a pack of the Danko Jones playing cards for $10, which sucks because after the show when I walked past the merch table again, they were $5. It's like trying to work the TSE, with those merch tables. But still, I can't complain. Not for one second. one lousy picture, taken after the show It was cool saying hello to BrownBomber, Spunshuga and Mango Kid again - who Danko did indeed point at twice during the song Mango Kid. SeanKey, hopefully I'll meet you next time. There was no Sway this time, but I did see Ian Blurton in the crowd. All in all it was a really fun show. Thanks to the band for ripping our heads off once again. Cheers.

The one pic i have where dankos eyes are closed are from the beginning of his ballad. To show how serious he was. Sorry for the extreme close ups in my pics. I had to zoom in because all I kept getting were the back of peoples heads at first. They're mostly of danko, because it was hard to get anyone else from the angle I was at. I kept trying to get dan, but mostly all I got was cymbal. He is the artist formerly known as dan, now hes just a cymbal (symbol..hahaha). It was a cool mix of lighthearted attitude with asskicking music. I don't know why though, I like the sound better at lees. The music sounded louder than the mics...not sure if it was cuz where I was standing, or if thats how they wanted it...but it sounded like dankos voice was straining from time to time...like on sleep is the enemy. Or maybe I just hear things. I'll shut up now.

The vocals did seem a bit low at the beginning but got better as the show went on. We were standing close Tidy...you don't get to hear a good mix unless you're further back.

This was my third time seeing the band and I'd say it probably ranked the third best of them. That's not a slight, it's just that the other two shows were SO excellent, plus I wasn't crazy about the venue. I thought it was still a great show...loved hearing the new stuff live. As discussed in a previous thread the sightlines were, indeed, sucky. I must have driven by The Opera House four times looking for parking before I found that lot just by the intersection outside the club. Fuck me, I could not find one of the green circle "P" signs to save my life! The merchandise selection was disappointing. I wanted one of the 'Sleep' tour shirts but they didn't have anything but small by the time I got there. I ended up getting the black 'We Sweat Blood' shirt but even that one they only had extra large (I wanted a large). I said screw it and just bought it and, low and behold, it fit perfectly. What is that with t-shirts? They need to come up with some sort of universal sizing system. At least the price was right...I've seen a ton of shows but I don't think I've ever bought a band shirt at a club show before until now. I'm used to paying $40 at an arena show so only having to pay exactly half that at the Danko show was a refreshing change.

Pricing had to be adjusted as the Opera House takes points off everything. They have to pay for that guy in bathroom handing out gum you know. Almost all the shirts were leftover from the recent European tour. I know it sucked the sizes were limited. Without those few scattered items we would have only been selling the white Sleep is the Enemy shirt, which you seem to be the proud owner of. Rumours of an online store??

Parkdale I didn't realize that was you behing the merch table, I totally would have said hi.
Don't sweat the overpriced playing cards, sombody did me a real solid and got me in on the guestlist, so I'm in no position to complain.
That's crazy that the Opera House takes a piece of merch!

That's crazy that the Opera House takes a piece of merch! I wonder if that happens more often, that a venue takes a piece. I always thought (and hoped) I support the band by buying a shirt

Then again, alot of places PAY bands to play instead of having bands play for free and charging entrance on top of that. I heard that in some places bands even have to pay to play (in the US that is)
