I know this ain't their real cup of tea...or maybe it's me being in a melancholy mood because of the season... But I'm not so sure about that! The guys didn't do so much bluesy-slower stuff up untill now, so we can't really judge about that... Personally I like "If I Were You" and that Ray Charles live-cover "I Want To" also sounded promissing...are there any more??? (Maybe they just need a lead-guitarist, so I'm preparing myself for the job right now.. ;D)

If i were you is the only one i know out of those I once downloaded a song by Danko Jones-cleavage - "trust me" it doesn't sound like Danko Jones, but the MP3 tag says its from "my love is bold" If i were you is a great song though

I've drawn some heat from fans for saying this in the past, but I think If I Were You is easily the worst song in the Danko Jones catalogue. I know these guys are capable of a good rock ballad (a la 'Patience'), I just don't think If I Were You is it.
If I Were You just seems a little too overwrought and sappy. Not quite as bad as 'Love Bites' but getting close. I should admit to a personal bias against shlocky over-produced power-balads though.
I do love the acoustic flourish at the end of My Love Is Bold. It makes me think that DJ could do some cool acoustic songs.
note to jackyfromjudy; I'm also trying to shake off some seasonal melancholy - maybe it's contagious or something (like that zombie virus from 28 Days Later).

I agree it's the odd one out Tidy. I think they were experimenting a little bit there. When I first heard the song, I couldn't believe it was Danko singin' there. His voice has actually quite a lot of range! I just hope they will do a good bluesy ballad someday, but there has to be a good solo in it to keep things entertaining BTW Tidy: perhaps we are sharing so much "Danko Luv" on this board that germs are spreading all over the place P.s. Danko I downloaded that cleavage song to, but I doubt it has anything to do with DJ.

I have to agree with Tidyman on this one as well (and I have about a dozen friends who feel the same way and all are Danko deciples). Having said that, I love every (EVERY) other track so one out of the 30 or so recorded is a hell of a lot better than 99.9% of the bands out there can boast (and THAT friends, is truthin'!).

*goes extremely offtopic* Yeah, I think I figured the Cleavage part out: A long, long time ago, when I didn't have any CD's yet, I downloaded soms songs from Kazaa, and there were some Cleavage songs too which just were tagged Danko Jones. People do that once and a while, to lure fans into listening to their lesser songs. Actually, Cleavage is not that bad, but it's not Danko Jones either.
Ballads. Er, I dunno, I think they'd be able to pull it off but methinks it would look rather weird if it'd be an album full of rock with one shiny ballad.

Wow! I think that's actually a compliment for DJ then; they are so populair, that other bands use their name to lure fans with it!! They could have also labeled the file-name "Rolling Stones" or "U2" though ;D

If I Were You reminds me of early-day Mogwai when they chose to sing in the odd song. And I know I've seen DJ sporting a Mogwai tee . . .

Danko Jones is bigger than the Rolling Stones and U2 combined... going buy my CD collection, pictures in my room, and my guitar knowledge anyways. I would be willing to bet a neutral fan would enjoy DJ live more than those two bands. Neutral meaning, 20 year old male who loves rock. He rocks sh!t hot. Do those bands do that?

Long lost son...possibly. I mean, it would be pretty hard to determine who is a bigger DJ fan. But it would be cool to have parents who hopped out of bed and danced to....dance. Or any Danko Jones song for that matter. This might be a sad thing, or a good thing, but everytime I play a Danko song in the house...my mom sings along. She hears it so much she knows the words and loves the beat. Her favorite song is "Sound of Love." So, if I am your long lost son, Rocky, then that would make sense, now wouldn't it?

But you haven't put you age on the profile, I Like To Ball! We must know your age if you and Rocky are related, to pinpoint the time of seperation. Back to topic: I seriously don't think that the boys are going to make so many ballads... The Ray Charles cover is quite old (?), and on interviews and so on to WSB, they have mentioned Slayer and Entombed as influences. And as far as I know those bands are not famous for their soft ballads! ;D Danko said on a Close-Up interview, that they wanted their new album to be Rock 'n Roll with a metalish twist... I mean "The Cross" or "Home To Hell", see any ballads the way those came from?

For instance, I like to compare them a bit with THIN LIZZY who WERE a big influence on them!! That band rocked big time especially LIVE!! They did it all, irish-folk, rock, metal, blues...everything... They also started out as a trio and later became a five member band (with two guitarists!!). Who knows, maybe DJ will expand to in the feature If they realy want to hit it BIG time (and Danko says he does), and become as huge as those two bands mentioned in an earlier post above (which I both do respect btw) they have to explore all feature possibilitys... But I just like them the way they are right now! A little bit of me inside secretely hopes they will never become that huge-arena-type-of-band-thing anyway But hey, Danko wants the WORLD... And no one can stop him...

Now I am confused. I have always thought in the back of my mind "I hope DJ never make it big" b/c these intimate shows are AWESOME. I must be related to jackyfromjudy AND Rocky. And gentlemen, I just turned 21, so I am now legal all over the world. And, yes, I would love to sweat some blood into a vile for a DNA test. On a serious note, DJ ballad's are not out of the question, even the cross (freakin love that song - its my fight song and home to hell are metal. Metallica is a very successful band who has tried the ballads, the symphony, the covers, the metal, the rock, tried it all. And it might not be so "mainstream" but its what they want to do, and true Metallica fans love it all. As true DJ fans, we will love everything produced, and they will produce whatever they want. I love how non-mainstream DJ is, but they are so good. How hasnt the whole world caught on already?

A little bit of me inside secretely hopes they will never become that huge-arena-type-of-band-thing anyway I hear you jack. As much as I would love for DJ to blow the f**k up, I would NOT love paying $45 to watch them play through binoculars at Air Canada Center. Sac: I'll bet you 20 euro that Danko Jones has another ballad recorded by 2006.

Ok, Tidy. The bet is ON! Guess I will see you in the future then, when you come all over to Sweden and ashamed pay your debt... BTW, I don't think "I Want To" is a bad song, it actually is quite good. Have you heard the Backyard Babies song with Danko singing? I think that one rocks! Almost like a ballad, a hard ballad... "I got a friend, her name is Grace, when we broke up, it put a smile on my face"
