I'm still reeling from the news that there's plans for a new forum . A 'better' one? Personally, I think, like Jedinathan says, we've got a good community here . It's the fans that make a forum good. I think we've got a loyal bunch here, and the only thing wrong with this board is that we're hard to find. We could do with better promotion from the official sites and mailing list, to attract new members. With all that in mind, why can't this board just be made official, and accessible from the home page of dankojones.com? Plenty of bands run proboard forums as their official ones. Good that they've asked you to be a mod though, D'Jane...I just hope they keep it in mind that you, me and others here want to build on the community we already have here. Do they understand why we want to save this board? We want to get some new fans in here, and get this place really buzzing again!

I've wondered about that too... Why this board is unofficial... It is mentioned on the official site... and we all know how much the band reads this forum and they have commented on it before. I don't think that its a bad thing to have several forums; it can only encourage more people to listen and enjoy the band. I just don't think that this one has to be sacrificed for the sake of another... There are a ton of great people on here... though it is a little hard to find. Once you find it though, you just keep coming back (at least I did!!! hahahaha)

Joined the myspace group D'Jane. Good work gal! The Facebook group is growing too, not bad considering it's only a few days old! Looks like Beers has been gathering quite a few people from around the world too. I got my mate Wayne to join...he saw them when they supported the Bronx in spring 2004 (the last time they played anywhere in Wales prior to the recent Motorhead tour) and thought they were amazing. He doesn't have any Danko stuff though, and didn't know much about them until I started going on about them all the time .

I think this message board is fine. It's not as busy probably because it's the same members for the past few years and we've said most of what we want to say. This board is linked from the official site Dankojones.com and my site, dankojones.net. If people want to find it that's fine.
I don't doubt that a number of people are on the facebook thing too. Only thing is that I've been hearing a lot of people starting to get bored with facebook in general and I don't like leaving that as the only online "community". I think this board has become a place for the hardcore fans mostly.

i dunno how many people remembered there used to be an official message board, back in the days of dobbs being the website mod, thats where i started, during that time, this board was suspended.
the original board was shut down however due to racist, homphobic and overal very nasty people writing stuff, as well as it being taken over for SPAM.
now i am not against a new official board. i say we give it a chance, however i hope that they have the smarts to choose thier mods wisely and not just take anyone who offers.

I don't want to start with it and then realise I actually don't have the time for it. Asked Mister Olle from badtaste, but that good man obviously is too busy to answer, what a moderator actually does? delete inappropriate comments? Or what exactly?

The old "official" board went down because, according to Dobbs, it kept getting hacked. It became an issue of too much time and money to keep it secure and running.
The history of Danko boards: 1 - dankojones.net had a board. 2 - Rocky and Spunshuga broke away and started this board. 3 - I shut down dankojones.net's board and went with this one. 4 - dankojones.com starts an official board 5 - dankojones.com ends official board 6 - this board is again adopted as the board of choice and is linked to from dankojones.com and dankojones.net
As for starting a new board - I think you need to consider the time and cost involved in doing so. Proboards (where this board is hosted) offers a decent package with minimally intrusive ads for free. When I started dankojones.net I had looked into options to create a board. First, I would have had to pay significantly more for hosting because of the SQL Database scripts that need to be enabled to run board code. Second, most of the decent boards out there you have to buy the code pack. Then there's the monthly bandwidth required...
Frankly, I don't see the difference in this board vs. a slicker looking board other than a few cosmetic differences and the ads.

what a moderator actually does? delete inappropriate comments? Yep. Inappropiate comments and/or spam and make sure that all conversations are kept clean (no insulting etc.) I was one of the moderators of the official Motörhead board for a while, but quit. There were too many people on that board just talking shit and I don't have time for that.

Well, I think the general consensus is: this board isnt going anywhere. Whatever else happens, Im cool with. And Im sure everyone else will be cool with. I like this place, I cant be here all the time, like everyone else...life is busy, but as long as everyone is happy, Im happy. Just wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page and content with things the way they are.
