I thought it might be fun to share stories about your first impression/experience with Danko Jones. What hooked you into becoming a fan?
Here's mine: The year was 2000. I was at a club called Les Rendezvous (RIP) to see Sloan on their Between The Bridges tour. A little known band called Danko Jones was the opening act. I had heard Bounce and I thought it was a good song, but I didn't know anything at all about the band. Anyway... showtime comes and Danko Jones walk out. Danko grabs the microphone and before the band has played a note he starts YELLING: "I AM THE D THE A THE N THE K THE O THE J THE O THE N THE E THE S THE D THE A THE N THE K THE O THE J THE O THE N THE E THE S THE D THE A THE N THE K THE O THE J THE O THE N THE E THE S MY NAME IS DANKO JONES AND BEFORE EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM LEAVES HERE TONIGHT YOU ARE GONNA KNOW MY NAAAAAME!"
Then they launched into their first song (I have no idea what it was) and I was like "WTF is happpening?!?" I loved every minute of the set and the second it was over I ran to the merch table hoping these guys had a CD. At the time, the only thing they had out was the My Love Is Bold EP - I bought it and I have been a huge fan ever since.

ok #1 AWESOME IDEA FOR A THREAD! Ummm. My first time... Saddly enough it was only a few months ago... Sept 2007 when I really listened to the band. I was getting back into school, and there was a giant show going on around town that was being headlined by Three Days Grace, who I really enjoy. Danko was on the bill, and since my girlfriend was already a massive fan, I managed to convince her that we should go. Honestly the best two acts of the whole thing were Danko and Three Days Grace, and we were so tired that we left halfway through Three Days Grace. I remember keeping track of the bands, and telling Sarah (my girlfriend) that Danko was up next and if she wanted to try and move up on the floor. We got about halfway to the front, because the floor was filled with alcohol fuelled violent teens who just wanted to shove each other instead of moshing (prompting Danko to stop halfway through and tell them to stop LOL). Basically I remember hearing a few of the songs and going "OH! So THATS who sings this song!". After that I went home and downloaded a few tracks and got hooked. We were second row for the concert at the Urban Lounge the next month, and I got some great pics on my cell phone, as well as a small video, actually over I Like to Ball's shoulder (although I had no idea about this site at the time). THAT was an awesome concert, and made me start looking everything up and wanting the band to come back.

The first time I heard Danko Jones was in my sisters car in 2004. She played Lovercall, Bounce and a couple more songs and I LOVED it. Later that year I heard it again in my friends car and I made him play the album over and over. And I still love the songs. I never get tired of them. I love his style. So I downloaded the songs myself and listened to them all the time. And recently I found Never Too Loud in a record shop and I bought it right away even though I allready had bought 3 games and another cd. Too bad I can't experience my first Danko consert the 4th like I was supposed to. I hope I get to see him some other time.
Love from the Smurf

2002 - Little 17 year old Jane reads the newspaper and reads that a band called Danko Jones, who just released their album Born a Lion, is going to play in a small local indie Club the upcoming weekend.
In the article they described the sound as raw blues rock'n'roll and that the singer could be related to Jimi Hendrix. So I got myself a copy and loved it from the start.
As they were playing that weekend, I wanted to go see them, BUT... no underaged persons in that club and noone had time to come with me, so I had to wait until I was 18 and luckily that year a new album came out and so I could see them live and even with new songs, yeha.
I just regret that I could never buy Merch from the Born a Lion stuff

First time poster...thought I'd add my story... The first time I saw Danko was on March 13th 2000(still have the ticket stub) at Les Foufounes Electriques in Montreal. He was opening or sharing the gig with Tricky Woo, who were huge locally at the time. I got dragged to the gig by a friend who had been telling me about Danko and the Woo for months. Due to a stupid law, bands playing live shows in Montreal had to STOP immediately at 11pm so that dance or dj music could be immediately played in clubs for the rest of the night. As a result I guess Danko went on very early because he was already playing when we got there. Damon had 'just' joined the band according to my buddy. Maybe because they didn't have a huge catalog at that time, but all the songs were well under 2-3 minutes then and Danko did A LOT of filler comedy inbetween songs, talking trash, which was all very funny. This was after Danko and the Woo had both lost the Juno(Canadian music award) to...Bionic I believe...which was a lame call on the Junos in my opinion. I remember just being shocked at what I saw, Danko was out of control like 1978 David Lee Roth with a guitar, JC would stand there, unmoving, looking totally without emotion and Damon was drumming his brains out on TWO drums and ONE cymbal. I couldn't believe it. Where was this music when I was 16 and NEEDED IT!! The set went like this: long pauses of Danko comedy, then two minutes of intense blistering ROCK, repeat. The first song I remember seeing was "White Cadillac". The most memorable thing about the show I remember was during one of the stops in "Mango Kid" where he would normally say "I've been a rock prodigy since the age of 20", Danko broke into a 2-3 minute monologue that was something to the effect of: "I know what you're thinkin', you're thinkin' "Oh! Danko thinks he's all that" Don't you?! Don't you?!! You're thinkin' "Oh! I can get up there and do what Danko Jones does, it's not that hard, it's not that hard, Danko can do it.." and you're thinkin' "Oh I'm gunna go home and buy me guitar and I'm gunna learn to play it real good like and maybe I'll buy myself a microphone and do some singing and maybe I'll get some guys and maybe we'll get a gig onstage and we'll play a gig real good and maybe we'll be stars" but it doesn't matter because I've got 2 tons of music records in milk crates in my apartment and I'm already ahead of you!!!!!!!!!" (cue rest of song) He did so much funny stuff that night. I was hooked immediately. I bought the "My Love Is Bold" EP that night from him in person and he signed it for me right there and shoke my hand. I went home and listened to it at 2 in the morning for hours and I had to work the next day! I remember being pissed that there wasn't all the songs he played that night on the EP. I waited what felt like YEARS to get a recording of "Cadillac" after that. Ironically my friend who dragged me to that gig is the guitarist in Billy Talent, who opened for Danko a while after that when they were known as Pezz and I'm kicking myself cause they needed roadie help for that gig and I didn't go!! I did get to thank Ian years later for introducing me to the Danko and the Woo, because I honestly believe that gig changed my life.

I've been a DJ fan since the first time i heard Bounce on the radio(Power97 in Winnipeg) after my sister saw Bounce on Much and was telling me about them and how i'd like them. then Born a Lion came out and i rushed out to get the CD. one of my fave bands of all time, and BAL would definitely be on my desert island list.
