I was wondering whether there are any bands like Danko Jones.
I always find it hard to describe them to friends of mine, and I haven't really found any groups that are like them. I _would_ like to listen to more of this music but other groups I've found are either too rough fer my delicate ears (hehe) or too fake.
Er, anyone?

Hmm. Many Finn says that our Sweatmaster and DJ sounds like each other. go.to/sweatmasterBut I think your friends doesn't know this either ;D |

Yup, I too have heard people mention Sweatmaster and DJ in the same sentence. There are some similarities and Sweamaster are a good band. Not as great as Danko Jones though...

Great band - those Hives fellows - but they're more of a straight-ahead punk band. Wait A Minute is somewhat Hives-ish.
The Hives are WAY overdue for some new shit.

They are kind of like Danko Jones, in the way of constant touring. But they first put out their albums. and THEN startet to tour all around... So now everybody wants more. Great band, like you guys say.

Well, in my not so humble opinion, Danko jones music, make me think of Danzig ( danzig, how the the gods kill, lucifuge and 4) , especially for the guitars sounds (not the voice), my dream is to listen the song "Mother" (danzig hit) played by Danko jones !

Hey, thanks everyone! I know the Hives, somewhat of a fan of 'em too (though Get free from the Vines is still better  ) but I think the Danko Jones connection is a bit shaky. It may sound a bit the same for the untrained ear but The Hives have a more relaxed feel to them on the whole, methinks. |

True, they thieve The Stooges, but that's a mighty fine influence, in my less-than-humble opinion. And seriously - listen to the song 'Untutored Youth' an honestly tell me if that song doesn't just plain ROCK. You've fired me up ToppleR (I love you for that)! And since I'm fired up I think I'll fire up Mara and say I don't care for The Vines all that much ;D But I do agree that the Hives/DJ comparison is a bit shaky. |

Tidyman: Well being inspired by or stealing the sound is two different things. My opinion is that is better to listen to the sonics instead of listening to the hives.. But i also believe that rock music was better in the good old days. I'm not saying that new rock music is crap, but most of it is.

For what its worth, not much prolly, as u may know i grew up in the 60's music era. Danko sounds very much like the style that emerged from many fine bands in those times. you can hear a little of everything possible in DJ's mix, bands like Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels,, Deep Purple, Sam& Dave, Wilson Pickett, etc, etc,. A blues rock band called J.Geils Band used the exact same hard driving beat, but The Kid is better, by far.  |

Well today we have band that know how to do the job right. But we also have bands that should just go home and do their homework before recordning another album.

I think Dankos music, exept the vocals, are quite similar to AC/DC. Well, maybe not similar, but you can really hear on some parts that they have a real AC/DC feel about them. Danko Jones have more blues in their music though... And easy kicks harder than Angus Young on the stage!

Well I said this many times before & Danko admitted it also in his radio-show; they get compared a lot with Thin Lizzy! That's where they first reminded me of...
I agree with Sac on the AC/DC part, the speed & straight fowardness...
They're very heavy on the 70's actually....
Danko being a KISS-fan and all...
Funny because I actually think these guys are somewhere about my age, and when KISS was really populair overhere in europe I was still a toddler.

Hehe, Tidyman. In all honesty, overall I dun like the Vines that much either (I'm sorry ) but I do think the song Get Free is brilliant. And I don't think the hives have any song near that brilliant. Perhaps last night. |

I saw them at the Fields of Rock Festival last summer, and they KICKED some ass!! They where a REAL G:o:oD LIVE band, very energetic, and good stage presence!! They indeed reminded me of DJ a bit, because of the sweat they put in to the show. Still have to get some CD's from them, thanks for reminding me Dankie  CHECK THEM OUT!!! |
