aarrgghh, i was in Toronto in July, Danko was in Europe, bad timing...best I can hope for is something a little more eastern and within driving distance, possibly Montreal which is 12 hours . That's an excellent idea GBV, hopefully some day we can all meet at the same concert, we'd have our own little cheering section. Food for thought...

I'll be driving AND I have to work the Saturday after the show at 8 in the friggin a.m! What I'm saying is I will most definitely be sober. So I'll chip in with whatever thoughts enter my pea-brain as well.
I didn't make the Detroit gig because stupid as it sounds, I couldn't confirm the gig was actually a go until it was too late. From what I understand the band had to have their shit packed up and off the stage by 9 pm so the techno DJ could set up for the "three floors of fun" night which WJLB hosts every Friday at the St. Andrews complex. When I found this out at 6 pm last Friday I was PISSED!
Oh well, I have no doubt this Fridays show will wash the bad taste out of my mouth.

Hey that techno DJ must be hot, maybe you should have checked it out T-man ;D

T-minus 16 hours til Danko hits the stage. T-minus 10 hours til this 15-strong Danko faction cracks open their first beers in prep.

message to GBV -- you were rolling 21 deep?!?? Holy shit! I don't know 5 Danko fans!
observations about last nights gig
- we showed up late once again: The Illuminati were in the middle of the second last song in their set. I laughed when the one dude said "We're opening up for Alice Cooper at the Hershey Center. Tickets are only eighty dollars."
- it was a great show, but not the hottest Danko gig I've seen. It started strong and ended very strong, but it didn't seem like they were as "on fire" during some of the songs in the middle of the set.
- The new songs sounded great live. I Love Living In The City might have been even better live than on the CD - and I know that's saying a lot.
- Danko said Lee's Palace was the home of the first ever Danko Jones gig. "We played to a crowd of people who showed up to see Jawbox. I can't remember most of the songs we played but I'm positive we played this one" he said before launching into Samuel Sin.
- Damon sang back up on I Want You, Love Travel, and We Sweat Blood.
- I laughed again when Danko said it was the guy from Four Squares birthday. "and I'm going to break a promise" he added "ladies, he's a virgin." Heh. What a bastard.
- Lee's Palace is still a great place to see a rock show.
- It was a fairly reserved crowd compared to some I've seen. Except for that one chick -- more on that in a sec.
Funny moment #3 - "At Toronto shows there's always a lot of people that I know trying to get my attention" said Danko at one point, "It's working because you're making me f**k up the songs." (he blew the guitar solo in Sound Of Love when he pointed at somebody).
- Cadillac really got the crowd going. Toward the end of the song one girl down front and left of the stage stood on a chair, lifted up her top and held it there until Danko saw her. "You people in the back probably didn't see what just happened. We don't have a jumbo-tron like Kiss" lamented Danko, "I don't know what to say..."
- Mountain was red-hot. You could tell he was feeling it.

I Want You Heartbreak's A Blessing Bounce Never Again Play The Blues Sound Of Love Lovercall Forget My Name
15. Love Travel 16. We Sweat Blood

Rockin' show. (Un)Fortunately we were all sillily drunk and my memory is hazy. Thanks for the set list. Twas I yelling out lyrics of love travel when Danko stopped and said "Waidaminute . . . What did ya say?" before breaking into it. Where were you standing, T-man?

T-man i believe that there is a high salaried, perk-loaded job awaiting you at Rolling Stone mag, awesome report, thanks. I was actually checking out air line prices in the morning (Friday) close, close, i was so close to going. I left it too late, plus I didn't quite mention it to my better half. " hey hon, guess what"

You're far too kind, Rocky! Save that plane ride to t-dot idea for another time, we'll have to meet at a show one day.
GBV I was further back - at the front of the first elevated level. I distinctly remember Danko saying "What did you say? Love Travel? Okay." I didn't hear you shouting but that's cool that it was you he was talking to.
I was damn close on the set list. One guy on the dankojones.net message board walked away with one and I got him to post it. Here it is:
1. Wait A Minute 2. Dance 3. Way To My Heart 4. I Love Living In The City 5. Samuel Sin 6. Sex Change Shake 7. Play the Blues 8. I Want You 9. Heartbreaks A Blessing 10. Bounce 11. Never Again 12. Sound Of Love 13. Forget My Name 14. Lovercall 15. Love Travel 16. We Sweat Blood
encore 17. The Cross 18. Cadillac 19. Mountain

The band was HOT for this show in Toronto; I loved every second of it but like GBV, the memory was a bit hazy after a steady booze flow pre-show.
Other random thoughts: -Damon can sing...who knew? -JC rocks harder every time I see him (now around 30 times) -the new songs are even better with the record now out (and if you don't have it yet...shame on you!). -kinda sad that the days of seeing Danko 3/4/5 times in a month are gone but that is just being selfish...they deserve even more adulation than they get -I Love Living In The City kicks ASS live -they really should bust out Love Is Unkind more...still my live fav.
