hey...anyone know anything good about austin? i'm from milwaukee, moved, mistakenly to jacksonville florida (holy fucking ouch) and may have the opportunity for a job in austin. anyone know anything? i hear good things so far, but am looking for thoughts. i'm a black-hearted sweet rock and roll chick who's into the artsy farsty with an occasional evil twinge, as well, and am looking for a town that might fit that. perhaps back in the midwest, but if anyone has any thoughts about austin, or anywhere else, for that matter, have mind will travel. fuck it, you know? i can teach anywhere. but i like having the rock and the art in the same city that i am. cheers, sheila

i've heard that Austin is a rockin' town - not a country music town, but a rock n roll town. my friends and i were planning a trip down there for last month, but canned the plans because we all couldn't get the same week off work. they have Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas www.drafthouse.com/ where you can have dinner and a movie at the same time without interruption.

Austin is a fairly cool town. There's been a tremendous music scene there over the years. It's the home of Austin City Limits, where artists from virtually any genre will perform. Every year they have a festival over one weekend, and it's just insane the number of performing artists there are. They invite many, many artists that are virtually unknown to the general public, so it's a great place to get exposed to some new bands. I hear several celebrities have moved there recently due to Austin's reputation as an "artsy" city. If you move there though, you have to promise not to become another fucking Longhorn fan (it is the home of the University of Texas, you know). Despite my hate of UT, I'd certainly give Austin a thumbs up.

yeah. i have to miss sxsw as my spring break is the week after, but it would be nice to be in austin at that time. maybe the week later, or perhaps in may. everything i'm hearing is good about the city, so i'm down for it. my only apprehension is that i'm really a northern milwaukee/chicago girl at heart. thanks all for the suggestions/info. much appreciated and quite sweet. xo-

Yeah, Austin hosts SXSW. Knowing that would be good enough to get me to move there.

I heard that Matthew McConaughey was arrested at his home in Austin for sitting in his front yard, nude, playing the bongos, and I think they said he was toking a J. That kind of scares me, but you ladies might be into that.

hey, i'm down for any man who's fearless, but not who's necessarily a dipshit. while the said matthew's a good lookin' fella, i dunno about the bongos thing. i've spent at least a few minutes in my life, mainly while living in berkeley ca, avoiding said drum circles, but ya know, a fearless fella who's down, well, that's another story. but i tend to dig the dudes who hit drums proper like. not necessarily high and naked. just saying.
