2 years ago, I bought a 20Gb iPod. When asked for extra insurance I doubted, but did it anyway. AM I GLAD I DID! My old iPod caught a heavy cold, slipped into a coma and died. So, I sent it off to be repaired. Apple then comes with the sad news that it didn't survive the operation and that repairing would exceed the price of a new one. So, as I had the extra insurance Dixons sold me, I asked them what to do. They told me to pick out a new iPod. So I now have a sleek and shiny black 30Gb iPod video on my desk now. Almost through my 30dvd's of mp3's making a selection and uploading, but damn, 30Gb's is ALOT to fill, specially if you are picky on what to upload. R.

Extra insurance is a bit of a gamble.
I used to work for a consumer electronics chain and the salesman were always told to offer the extra insurance because - and I quote - "it's a cash cow."
The stores are playing a numbers game. They offer extra insurance because odds are better than not that their customers won't need it. If it wasn't profitable for them, they wouldn't sell it.
So big-ups to you Beaster for beating the odds. Reminds me of that time I won over 80 bucks playing blackjack...

I'll second what Tidyman said. I work for a bank and insurance is like a license to print money. Statistics show that almost 95% of insurance policies never pay out. Congrats to you for being in that other 5%!!!

Congrats to you for being in that other 5%!!! Exactly, I used to work in a camerashop where we sold extra insurance. It's a huge cashcow yes. I was just lucky (or unlucky for the insurancecompany) that my pod broke and I got to pick out a new one. now... to find more mp3's, it's only 30% full now. R.
