Now i'm not a devout viewer of Freestyle Fridays , but yesterday they were showing a best and worst of all the shows. And I think that's brilliant. I see that Much has tried to imitate a little by having Battle Thursdays (I love when they have breakdancers on) part of me thinks its fabulous, because its such a breath of fresh air to see hip hop being embraced and supported after how many years of being labelled a scapegoat for violence and misconceptions. I myself grew up listening to hip hop (much to the chagrin of my parents) Sure there are artists who preach violence and hate but that isn't what I grew up on. And the good thing about Freestyle Fridays is the contestants are not allowed to swear, preach violent or sexual content...they have to have actual skills and be able to beat an opponent with their brains not their fists. The stuff I grew up on was all about who had the most skills not this "bling, bling" garbage everyone so freely eats up these days. Groups like tribe called quest and the roots, common all had amazing lyrics that made u think. The other part of me is disappointed that the art form is so supported because it has fallen into the hands of people who just don't have the love or talent to exemplify what Hip Hop truly is. One last comment though, one person I love from Freestyle Fridays is Jin...his freestyles crack me up!
