The MTS Center site has a review of the show.
Kicking things off just before 7:00, Danko Jones opened up their set with “Sticky Situation” from Sleep is the Enemy, to be released next month.
In their second MTS Centre appearance (the first was November’s Powerball), frontman Danko (aka The Mango Kid), bassist John Calabrese, and drummer Dan Cornelius blended their signature sound—gritty, cocky rock and roll—with witty banter.
“This next song is about the environment and some environmental issues that are dear to my heart,” a stone-faced Jones said mid-set, quickly adding “I’m just jokin’, man! This song is about sex!” before launching into “Lovercall” from 2002’s Born a Lion.

You could point out two things to yogirl on the Nickelback forum if you happened to visit it again: 1. Nickelback was formed in the mid-nineties, around the same time Danko Jones was formed, which sort of eliminates her "latch on to the newest thing" argument. And... 2. Nickelback asked Danko Jones to be a part of the tour, which means the Nickelback camp doesn't think Danko Jones are "weird or bad or talentless." But you would have to care more than I do.

Whatever. We know how long Danko Jones has been around and we all know how long we've all been fans. Nickelback was right there playing the same small clubs Danko was 5 years ago. Only difference was the directions they took. Nickelback chose a certain formula and played the industry's game wheras Danko Jones does things their own way.
Hell, you can't expect "rock" fans to like EVERYTHING that's in the rock genre either. When Danko Jones opened for Sloan back in 99, there were Sloan fans I knew that thought Danko was a "freak" and they didn't like him. I, on the other hand, became a fan for life. When you open for Nickelback on an arena tour you have to keep in mind that almost every one of the people in that room are there to see Nickelback. If 10% of them who've never seen Danko before like him that means the next time Danko comes to town he might have a larger audience to play to. But keep in mind, there might be another 10% of the room that absolutely hates Danko Jones and can't wait for him to get the fuck off the stage so they can hear Nickelback.
Over the years, I've had to endure what I thought were some really shitty opening bands when I was there for the headliner. But, some of them I liked and became a fan. It's all about exposure.
