yeah, i've been a fan for ages. first time seeing them was opening for sloan at the concert hall on the one chord to another tour. twas a long time ago.
yeah, love is unkind was 10 minutes long and all the lyrics were "preached" out with fury. it was a kick-ass storytelling song. i miss it.
where you from, tidyman?

GBV, we are fortunate to have your DJ knowledge available for us. i started to 'catch on' about the same time as Tidyman... err maybe even a bit later. The band was coming to Halifax for years but unfortunately I didn't realize what i was missing ,duh.. Its great to hear about those neat tid-bits ur relating. Here's a quick question for you....what ever happened to the original drummer, cuz I've seen some older pics and it sure wasn't Damon?

They've had a few drummers. Prior to Damon it was Nico (I think that's how you spelled it). Believe he was in Econoline Crush. He was the shaved-head, pierced-tongue dude. There was also a Gavin, who I think was in Big Sugar, too. There may have been another. Yeah, Damon hasn't been with them that long.

One Chord to Another was Sloan's third record (still dig that song Autobiography). That pre-dates my Danko fandom by a few years, as I suspected.
I live in London, GBV. Danko Jones have played a club here called Call The Office 19 times (!!!). They think that's more times than any other single venue anywhere - including T-dot which is their home town! Unfortunately I missed shows 1 through 17. Oh well, as the song says Never Again!

Yeah, I've seen them at Call The Office a bunch of times. That place is great and ya gotta love all the historical stuff that decorates the walls. (And the cheap pre-11 p.m. beer prices).
Got my wonderful wonderful Danko hoodie at the last show there for a measly $30. I think it was February 2002.

The last Call the Office show was actually last Sept. I remember because I actually left a great cottage a little early so I wouldn't miss the gig.
Talking about the "historical stuff that decorates the walls", reminds me of that show, because Danko pointed to one poster on the wall and said "that's a poster for my very first band Merlin", and then gave a shout-out to the clubs manager Tony for "keepin it real".
Bet not many of my fellow Danko headz know that little bit of trivia (I sure didn't)!
Where are you from GBV?

Last September? Shit you're right. They also played Fanshawe (that week?) with Tuuli or something? My younger brother went, I think, to both but I'm sure I had a dandy reason for not making it -- I'd normally make the drive.
Was in Kitchener, am now in Guelph.
Did you go to Poison last night?

GBV, why i asked was just a hunch. I was at this wedding in Niagara Falls and had met a guy from Quelph who was also a DJ fan, we talked about the band for about an hour at lunch. I mentioned this message board and he said that he was aware of it through Dobbs' announcements. My hunch was wrong, maybe we will hear from him someday. Down here on the east coast its so compact that this kind of thing happens all the time, thanks for your attention.

That's right GBV, they played two shows in one week here. I missed the Fanshawe gig.
Didn't catch Poison yesterday either. Actually I've always kinda loathed the 80's hair bands. To each their own!

My fav is My Love Is Bold, 'cause that's the first song ever I've learned to play completely ;D
From BAL I like Way To My Heart the best, there's nice groove in that one!

my fave is Bounce. it was the first DJ song i heard, back in '98, and it got me started as a big fan of his.

My two absolute favourites are Bounce and Big Bed (love those lyrics ^_^) but the song that got me into DJ is The Mango Kid so I suppose it deserves to be named here too ^_^
Oh, by the way, I'm a really new fan. A friend of mine let me listen to a song ages ago, but I didn't pay attention to it at that point. It was still on my computer, though, and when I ran across it about 4 months ago I suddenly realised how great they are ^_^

Wish I could've heard that, GB. Love is Unkind is one of my faves because of its lyrics, and now you're telling me there used to be more of them! Oh well, I still love it. I think the "extra" was actually The Rules worked into the mix and it certainly was magic that way (not that it ain't now). As for fav tunes...Sex Change Shake, Love Is Unkind, Cadillac, Dance...I could go forever.

No, in the early days it was a long, drawn-out tale with explicit descriptions and repeated:
"I said mamma, IS LOVE UNKIND THEN (then a lengthy tale of heartbreak . . .), IS LOVE UNKIND THEN? . . . "
Ya know what mamma said . . . Ya know what mamma said . . ."
She said ' YEA ! '
Riffage riffage . . . cue another story and back to "Is love unkind then?" to another source.
