Hello everybody!
First off, i thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Olle and i work at Bad Taste Records. I also function as the Danko Jones Webmaster; dankojones.com, myspace, facebook etc.
I have worked for a while on an official Danko Jones Forum / Message Board that will reside on dankojones.com/forum.
Since you guys have been here for quite a while i thought it would be fair to discuss the new board with you. I welcome everyone to make requests of features that the new forum should have. Also, i would like all admins, moderators to join us in the new forum to contribute. If you think you can contribute to the forum, drop me a mail at olle@badtasterecords.se and we'll discuss more.
By the way. For all of you who have pre-ordered B-Sides, you're in for a real treat. It looks and sounds GREAT!

Great news, I think a new officiall board is well over due.
Is it possible to import all the posts from this board onto the new one? Lots of cool post here that I`d hate too see lost..

I'm still not sure about that new board
I'm still in the conflict between Old board "longtime-fans-putting-lots-of-work-into-this-and-don't-get-appreciated-by-badtaste" and New Board "Chance-to-meet-new-people-and-start-over-fresh". I don't know...
But in the end, it's up to us to decide wether to stick with the old one or go with the new one. I'll defenatly have a peek a the new one as soon it's standing, but we'll see what it's for
I would also request, that when people decide to go to the new forum, keep your nickname, so we'll know who you are

I really dont see what would be the problem if Bad Taste decides to put up an officiall board. Obviusly two Danko boards will be one too many, so I guess this one has played out its part in Danko history, but hopefully there will be a possibillity for the posts on this board to be imported into the new one. I also don`t think its the lack of appreciation from neither Bad Taste nor Danko Jones that has lead them to the decision of putting out an official board, rather that any band with such a big following as Danko Jones, SHOULD have an official board, where they can controll the layout and the presentation of things in generall, in conjunction with new records etc. Anyway, just the gesture from Bad Taste on this matter proves that Danko Jones is growing bigger, that they put a lot of effort into the band, and I really think we should just concider this as a very positive thing. And as you say Danko Jane, this will probably produce a lot of new members of the board, and that truly cant be a bad thing! |

Personally, I think an official forum is long overdue. As much as I like this one, I can see why it might not be as crowded as it probably should be.
First of all, the design/layout is outdated. While this may seem like a minor point, it does have consequences when it comes to easy navigation and "readability". I can't really put a finger on it, but there seem to be a better "flow" in other forums.
And Haakon already mentioned that in the end, it's not possible for the guys as badtaste to actually update this board with the latest graphics/logos etc.
I guess that's the most important point in the end: having no control over the board. I don't mean control as in censorship or stuff like that, but rather being able to upgrade server capacity and speed if need be. Relying on an external service leaves a webmaster at somewhat of a predicament: his influence is limited and he is totally dependent on the expertise and actual willingness of the service provider. Said provider could decide to limit the bandwidth for a forum because it generates too much traffic, introduce new forms of advertisement, prohibit certain technologies etc.
While in most cases this may not happen, it does in some (anyone who followed the downfall of the formerly huge ezboards knows what I'm talking about), which is enough for a webmaster to get worried.
Oh and btw, I think we should start fresh with a new board. Transferring old content is difficult and unnecessary. If we want more people joining the board, these people should have the possibilities to express themselves freely, without having to look for old threads buried somewhere deep inside a forum. From my experience, most users don't do that anyway and start new threads.
A link to this board should be enough for everybody who is actually interested in yesterdays talk.

Hello again!
The main idea with the new forum is as some of you understand, to make it accessible for more people. Many fans don't know that this even exist. Danko Jane, I don't know why you think that we don't appreciate your work. We absolutely do. At the same time we don't think that it should be like a private club.
There will be new features as we can do only if we host the forum on our own server as natty says.
There will definitely be a link to the old forum, and you are welcome to stay only here, but we would like to see everybody on the new forum as well.

I for one am kinda looking forward to the new board. I think it'll be good to have a new place to chat and hear whats going on for the band. personally I don't see the problem with having two boards, I check multiple sites a day, so its not gonna be too difficult to check another one.
When it goes up, I'll be on as jedinathan, if I can get the user name!

Hey guys!
I'm all up for the new forum and will certainly visit it. Definitely time for an official board to spread the word and our love. Good to hear we're keeping this one as well though, it has a lot of history. Think about the gig reports, all our different reactions to albums coming out, us simply horsing around and even baby pictures.
So I'm with you Olle, nice to meet you btw and thanks a lot for your work.
And you're right about the B-Sides, I'm having my first listen right here, right now. Where I should. ;D

That's exactly what I wanted to hear ;D I guess I have to put something right, I didn't mean to offend anybody, I was just not sure about all this at that time and had to think over it. so I'm very glad to hear all those positive opinions from you guys. It made me built a more positive way of looking towards the new board. So, sorry Olle for all the inconvenience, as a fan I'm very thankful for your effort you put in homepage, myspace and the new board. take care |

What I have noticed on this board is that there seems to be alot of registred members, and many guest surfin the board, but not so many members logged in, hence not so many posting.
I have a suggestion for the new board. Olle, you just posted the Sugar High video premiere. What if the new board had a section that required you to be logged in to be able to view posts? Cool stuff like video premiers etc could be posted there first, and would encourage people to join the board, and logg on, even if they are just reading posts.
I know this has worked well on other boards, generating more traffic.
