Hey I love to listen to Danko Jones anytime, anywhere. In my mind these guys are the #1 rock band in the world. I have had the pleasure of hearing them on only one occassion, it was Sept.19, 2002 at St.F.X. University. They left me totally drained, easily the best performance that I have ever heard anywhere. Here is a little intro to Danko Jones created by Sympatico music:
........................................................................
The lion rules the animal kingdom, and spends his days showing everyone who's boss by chowing down on the bones of those who dare challenge his supremacy. Now meet his son, Danko Jones. He rules the kingdom of rock, and while he doesn't have to show everyone who's boss because they already know it, he still goes out of his way to eat his competition for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and late-night milk and cookies. But where most kings can afford to sit around and get fat, Danko Jones is always on the hunt, he's always got the hunger. Once he gets a taste, he craves more. And more.
Last year, you heard his first call of the wild, I'M ALIVE AND ON FIRE, a 13-song document of early conquests (dating back to 1996-1999) that captured Danko Jones in his primitive state, and pretty girls all over the world fell prey. Now, the search for new blood must continue, and ladies and gentlemen, you are holding the bait right there in your hands: BORN A LION. It's not just an album, but a way of life, the laws of the jungle translated into real-life rock 'n' roll maxims. And where I'M ALIVE AND ON FIRE was served raw and bloody, BORN A LION cooks up Danko's bazooka riffs, bassist J.C.'s serrated rhythms and drummer Damon's seismic stomps into prime cuts of well-done sirloin.
The first song is "Play the Blues," and before you start asking, "What the f**k does some kid from Toronto know about the Mississipi delta?" let it be known that Danko Jones doesn't so much play the blues as live them. Robert Johnson didn't sell his soul to the devil so that a bunch of middle-aged wankers could jam on B.B. King show tunes for an audience of yuppies at a House of Blues supper club; likewise, Danko Jones wouldn't dare disrespect his elders by bastardizing their musical legacy or by demystifying the forces of darkness that surround them. Danko Jones is a 21st century boy with modern problems, which eat away at his soul before being unleashed into a fearsome rock 'n' roll howl. And that's when you know he's hungry -- when you hear that sound. The lover call. The sound of love.
That's right, this album talks about love, L-U-V - love vs. hate, good vs. evil, right vs. wrong… on BORN A LION, the most extreme emotions collide to create the most extreme music. It's the soundtrack of a soul being torn in two, the story of a young man who wants to love, who played by the rules and was true to his word, only to be lied to, cheated on and left for dead. But just when everyone thinks the lion is asleep, he comes back roaring louder than ever, and on BORN A LION, he reemerges in the form of Howlin' Wolf, Jimi Hendrix, Gene Simmons, Greg Ginn and Lemmy Kilmister on a sleeperhouse bender in the deep south. This time, people, the rules are simple: f**k with the beast, and he will f**k with you.
