Dear friends,
The countdown to the release of the new Danko Jones album has begun and
below you will find various info on:
- the new album
- the first single/video
- a new movie Danko is doing the title track for
- their extensive touring this summer (including their first trip over
to
Japan)
and much much more!!!
2 months to go
Danko finished the recording of their new album, We Sweat Blood, in
Toronto on May 31:st and to be able to play as many European festivals
as
possible this summer they decided to mix and master it at the
well-renowned Polar Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, where both Abba and
Led
Zeppelin have recorded legendary albums!
The album was finished on June 20:th and although the Born A Lion album
was hailed as one of the best rock'n'roll albums in recent years all
over
the world I don't think anyone will be prepared for the fury and
variation
We Sweat Blood unleashes! The 12 songs on the record span from
rock'n'roll
anthems such as "I Want You" and "Strut" (with Dregen from the Backyard
Babies doing back-up vocals) to the more laidback rock riffs of the
future
rock'n'roll classic "I Love Living In The City" and the hardest songs
Danko have ever written "Home To Hell" and "The Cross" (imagine Tom
Araya
and Kerry King joining Danko in the studio for a few hours and you
start
getting close)!!
The new album is being released in Europe on October 6:th.
First video & movie soundtrack
The first video from "We Sweat Blood" is currently being shot on
location
at an old movie set in Toronto, once again with director Craig Bernard
who
was nominated for a Juno award for "best video of the year" and also
won a
Much Music award for "best post production" for the "Lovercall" video
from
the previous Danko album!!!
A large part of the video takes place in a bank vault (!!) and the
song,
"I Want You", will be the title track for a new Alliance Atlantis film
(http://www.allianceatlantisfilms.com) called Foolproof
(http://www.foolproofthemovie.com/flash.asp). The film opens in
theaters
all over North America on October 3:rd and the soundtrack is coming out
on
Universal in about a month. European release date of the movie is still
TBC.
The CD-single for "I Want You" will be released in Europe on September
8:th and it also contains 2 unreleased bonus tracks - I Like To Ball
and
Take Me Out On A Stretcher that were recorded at the same time as the
album. Take my word for it, these aren't just leftovers. These songs
f**king rule!!!
Take Me Out On A Stretcher will also be included on a very limited 7"
coming out late September together with another unreleased gem called
"Woogie Boogie"!!
Danko in Japan and future touring plans
This summer meant yet another busy touring schedule for the three boys
from Toronto. Besides the 10 days spent in Polar studios they averaged
3
festivals/week starting June 6:th with the Rock Im Park festival and
ending with the Visions festival on July 26:th!! This summer also gave
them their first ever opportunity to visit Japan and I think it's
pretty
safe to say that it's a trip they won't be forgetting anytime soon!!
Danko Jones played the pre-party and the main stage of the biggest
festival in Japan, the beautiful Fuji Rock festival, and the crowd
loved
it! The first show at the pre-party was completely packed (I would
estimate somewhere around 4-5,000 people at the Red Marquee stage) and
people were stage diving like crazy and screaming their heads off!!! We
couldn't believe it... The second show was the following day and Danko
played the main stage in pouring rain just after lunch. Needless to say
we
expected the worst, but people just kept coming and were really, really
getting into it!!
In Europe Danko played for incredible crowds all over the place and the
good news is that there is no sign of them slowing down anytime soon!!
In
about two weeks they are coming back to Europe for a showcase in
Hamburg
on August 22:nd and the Crossroads festival in Gijon, Spain on the
23:rd.
In September/October they will be playing various shows in the U.S. and
Canada (more details on this shortly) and starting November 4:th they
have
another 7 week European tour starting that will take us all the way up
till Christmas!!!
I could probably keep writing another page or so on their plans for
next
year, but I need to save something for future newsletters... More
updates
on the web site shortly!!!
Hope everything is well!!! Take care,
Björn
