I just saw the video for 'Take me Home' on TMF a Dutch tv network (part of MTV) on a time that would normally never play Danko. But what the Hell, I like the song, like the band and it is still a lot better than Avril Lavigne and Justin Timberlake.
It's different, but well produced... might take some time to truly appreciate it, but I really feel like Danko wants a hit record for once and I can't blame him. What a musician wants is recognition. If they didn't want recognition for their albums, they would still only be relying on their live rep (which is infamous around the world), and not even making albums.

I managed to download the whole album for free off Limewire(will buy it when it eventually comes out).I agree with a lot of the comments on here ref the album, not as good as expected, its very Thin Lizzy Black Rose era,a lot lighter/mellow compared to previous releases.Code of the Road is the pick of the bunch.Saw DJ in London recently and still kicks arse. I also downloaded DJ live at Hultsfred,Sweden the whole gig,brilliant...again from Limewire.Hope that they play UK festivals this summer, saw them at Leeds Festival a couple of years ago, fantastic. Where's my Born a Lion cd?

I like the album really much, I really had to get into it, took some time but I really dig it now! My most favorite is forest for the trees. Gives me the stoner rock feel which I really like.
But there is one strange sound I keep hearing, when danko starts with And if I want to etc etc at 1:15 of Forest for the Trees. What is that, is it the limiter or some kind of sound transformer?

I can't buy this here until the 18th (and I most certainly will be buying this) but I just remembered it was already out in Europe and so I downloaded it off bit torrrent. So far after two listens I'm not bowled over but I do like it. I felt the same about 'SITE' and ended up playing that album probably more than any other in my large CD collection (though I still don't think it's the best DJ album).
"Code Of The Road" is still the best song IMO on this new release but then I've had some time to digest that one. When the free MP3 was made available I put 10 MP3's of the song on a CD for the car and listened to it non-stop (I still remember the puzzled look on a co-worker's face when I told them about this, lol). "Take Me Home" is an alright tune but it's a bit of a jolt hearing a different sound from the band. That said, I certainly don't begrudge them for trying different things. Any band that tries different stuff always reminds me of when Metallica did it with the "black" album. So many people lost their fucking heads at the time but the words of one of the band members still resonate - that the band had to keep it interesting for themselves first and foremost and hopefully the fans would understand that and stay on board with them. Besides, it's just one song! ;D
Anyway, other standouts to me are "City Streets", "Something Better", "Ravenous" (love the Lizzy vibe), "Never Too Loud" (the whisper at the end of the song was a great touch) and the bonus tracks are pretty kickass, too. BTW, anyone else notice in "King Of Magazines" that Danko "borrows" (or more likely an homage?) a line from Van Halen's "I'll Wait" with the line "Yeah, she just smiles and the picture sells"? Cool.

Ron got me the digipack, thanks again babe. Never Too Loud is certainly different, which is what I like most about it. No point in releasing a new album if it sounds the same as the last one if you ask me. I love the big winks and nudges towards the bands major musical influences. Truth be told, it could've done with a few more "ballsy" songs. I had to get a dosage of We Sweat Blood after listening to the new album yesterday. But I'm thinking the ballsiness will definitely show live. I've always thought Danko kicked 100% more ass live and I'm convinced the new songs will do the same. Can't wait to sing and dance to Code of the Road with everybody in April!

I just have to take a moment and LOL at the people I remember bitching about how BAL sounded "slick" and "overproduced". HA!
Ok, first impressions... lets go back in time a bit to when SITE came out. I heard that record for the first time and it seriously rocked my balls off. I loved it from the first play and I still love that record. ...Fast forward to today when I popped NTL into my CD player after I got out of HMV. Code of the Road is a great song... and then I hit City Streets and I kinda frowned... and then Still in High School - I got bored of halfway through... then Take Me Home, I was like "zuh..?" (however, I do like it). I've heard Let's Get Undressed live before, but I noticed the guitars are toned down on the recording. And so on... The one song that really grabbed me is Never Too Loud - really rocks! I know Danko told me that they were going in a different direction on this record, but I don't think I realized how exactly it would pan out. I think that the single Code of the Road is not a good indicator for the rest of the album at all. I did get the feel of old school metal coming out alot more in the writing and sound - which is fine if you're a fan of that. Maybe I need some more time to get to know this record, but if so, this will be the first Danko Jones record that I've ever had to give time to sink in. I see where Natty Dread is coming from and I sympathize. It's a good record, but I don't think this is going to be my favorite DJ record. I really don't want to be harsh, because I know how much time and effort goes into doing what the band does, but I really wanted to love it! Maybe, given time, I will.

You'd think married life would do the opposite. Give it some time i guess. jk Just got the cd today. The funny thing is I bought it, thinking I would really hate it. But I dont. Ive only listened to it once so far...but there are some songs I already like and thats rare for me. I like being right in my assumptions . Its not like old dj, but its not complete crap for that reason. It was interesting to hear more singing and harmonies. I'll have to listen to it a couple more times before I have concrete opinions, but so far, I think I'll really end up liking this album. And it will be nice to actually hear dj on the radio consistently, instead of giving people I know heart attacks in cars when by freak accident some station decides to play dj (*WOOOO turn it up!!*) Its not what we're used to hearing - true. But, how many albums would we like to buy from dj that all sound the same? "I have 10 danko albums that sound exactly the same..I love this band" lol. I know I was the hater, and Im still the hater when I think of them touring with nickelback ...but I dont think I should hate on something just because its different and I want to hate it. I liked it, even though it was more commercially marketable. So far my favs: lets get undressed, king of magazines, forest for the trees. And on another light note: There are only 2 copies of it currently left in my store at the moment. How great is that? Goo danko jones!

Woohoo is right loes. Good for them. They deserve some airtime. Now that ive listened to it a couple times...forest for the trees, your tears my smile and something better are my favs. Forest is my fav though..i love dankos voice and that jg is in it. I saw the clip of the random review by some unknown fan. I agree with some of his views, and his car is pretty damn sweet. But I dont agree that the album is a major disappointment. I think its great that a band doing the same thing for 10+ years would say "hey lets try something new." Hows that disappointing? Though, if danko starts singing opera, I might fall off the band wagon. Some country covers might be hilarious though. Hank williams?

Hey, just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in... I FINALLY listened to the album again since the myspace release, and I gotta admit, I've changed my mind. I love the record, and while there are a few iffy songs on it (I'm not a huge fan of Take me home), I love the rest. It is different, but it works well for the band. I completely agree with shuga... The change is good, and the recognition that they (hopefully) will get will be awesome. Saddly I only saw the fan review... the sound isn't working on the desktop... I have yet to play it on the laptop, but that car is balls... Kinda want to buy my own now...

My band used to do a punkish cover of Ring of Fire - the crowd went bananas every time.

Is it just me or are Johnny Cash songs being played to death now (especially since he passed)? Every time I'm out and there is a cover band playing, there's always some shitty cover of his tunes...most notably ring of fire. Cash is great but its like its "cool" to play his songs or something.
