Off-topic, but back on-topic... lol...
The more I listen to this full album, the more it's my favourite. Initially I liked Code of the Road, Still in Highschool, and Let's Get Undressed. Those ones remain awesome, but my favourites are now Something Better, Your Tears, My Smile, and Forest for the Trees.
It seems like all 3 of these songs are revenge type songs... someone trying to screw with Danko then realized what a huge mistake that is. Every time I listen to these songs, I relate them to a real life situation and it makes me love them even more.
Take me home is also a sign of change - never a bad thing for a band.
This sounds corny, but to all those people opposed or somewhat opposed to the album, I once heard "if you make a change and it feels comfortable, you didn't actually make a change."
Give it time, and crank it up!

Is it just me or are Johnny Cash songs being played to death now (especially since he passed)? Every time I'm out and there is a cover band playing, there's always some shitty cover of his tunes...most notably ring of fire. Cash is great but its like its "cool" to play his songs or something. I think the rise in popularity of his songs came after the movie came out...and while I totally agree there seems to be more of a "cool" factor for people to play his songs now (and yes, some of them are getting waaaay overplayed), I'm just glad people are finally appreciating his music and what a great artist he was. Johnny Cash was bad ass.

And, just to bring this back on topic LOL...I have to add "Sugar High" to my original list of favs from the album. It was so amazing live that I can't stop playing it now! Stellar song.

i have it on a live bootleg from '98, but it's called I Need Experience. I wonder if it's the same song.... but it's not the lyrics, just the music.

If I remember correctly the song was mistakenly named I Need Experience on the bootleg and is actually called Drop Your Lip Bomb. I could be wrong though.

Hi everybody, new here. I'm a Danko Fan since I discovered them in 2006. My favorite record is actually Sleep is the Ennemy (the first one i heard) and Born a Lion is not far behind. I must say that I don't like Never Too Loud very much. Still nice but just like QOTSA they've gone mainstream (in my opinion). It would have been better (for me) to go Entombed than QOTSA ^^ I can't wait for the tour to come to Rouen next week. It's still rock and roll and the set list is awesome (my first DJ live experience was the Hellfest festival in 2006, 45 minutes only.... but fantastic !)

oh come on. not that stupid 'sellout'-shit again. I'm not too fond of the new record either, but that has nothing to do with it actually selling quite well.
And the last two qotsa records were actually quite inaccessible compared to sftd, if you ask me. songs for the deaf surely was their 'pop' record (and masterpiece, many would say).

took me a while, but i finally picked up the album, to be perfectly honest after hearing it on myspace, i was a little hesitant in picking it up.
however i must say it is a very good album, its not say my fave danko album (IAAOF) but it is much better on CD than myspace. it is alot of fun to drive to, though i must say, i skip track 4 every single time it comes on.
also i will be there at the sound academy show, i hope to see some familair faces

...i skip track 4 every single time it comes on. I get the same urge, every time. But I don't skip it, it is not unbearable, but I just don't get the the point. Don't get me wrong, I think the lyrics are cool, very Danko Jones indeed, but the music is too much country for me. At least that's how it sounds to me. Maybe it's me being too european, but I can't seem to get it. Still, I give it a try every time I listen to the album. "Sugar High" is still my favourite track, that one I can't get enough.

To me, that track doesn't really sound like "Achy Breaky Heart" or shit like that Well, maybe it doesn't exactly sound country, but it certainly "stirs" the similar emotions as country music does, at least for me. And I'm not saying that country is something bad in general. It's just not my cup of tea. I totally respect any of Danko's decisions to lead the band and his music to whatever direction he likes. What I do kinda mind is that this song seem to be getting a lot of attention, seems to me a lot more than it deserves (Can you get the hint that I don't like it that much?). Seems a bit unfair because of all those other great songs that they've been bombarding us for the last 10 years, a lot of touring and sweat to reach the status they so deserve, but never quite got it (yet).

New stuff in the old style. Some times i think i can hear Kiss sound. Like old rock. And I love it. I'm from the "born a lion" generation and i think its the best album. So guess i was happy when i hear the 3 last songs (on the ltd. album) special sugar high. That song is like it belongs to the old times. And i listen to the album when I'm out for a walk with my Little baby and I'm smiling all the time. But when this song is the next track. My hair is raise. I can feel the energy from the music. Then i smile any more. ;D ;D ;D But this is what im thinking about the new album.

Father's Day came very late for me this year...since, under great duress, i promised my kids that i wouldn't buy this album upon release, i'd wait till father's day and let em get me a most valued, desired, meaningful, joyous and significant gift, Never Too Loud. But ha, everybody was sold out by father's day, it had to be ordered in, just got it today, some two weeks later. Took it to the car immediately, played it, played it loud....loved it, absolutely LOVED IT, thank you my children, thank you Danko Jones...I'm a happy man

Hey all. Haven't posted here in a while and that's kuz I had to take a break from Danko. The new album was just brutal and really hard for me to take. Anybody and everybody who knows me knows that I've been a Danko fan for years. I'm very willing to bet that I've had more and better sex to We Sweat Blood than anybody alive. Prior to Code of the Road, Very few days had gone by where I hadn't listened to at least some Danko Jones. It was their for my road trips...I'm a semi-pro poker player...my workouts, my parties, even my housecleaning days. Then I heard Code. It was so amazingly hard to listen to. I've read a few of the above posts and read pretty much what I expected. Obviously it isn't a typical Danko Jones record and that doesn't by itself make it bad. Muse, RHCP, SOAD, Hives etc don't make typical Danko Jones records but their stuff still rocks. In my hardcore Danko fan opinion, Code does not or even come close. The album has a cleaner sound. Whether that's good or bad isn't really relevant. Born a Lion was dirty production-wise but WSB and SITE were fairly slick I thought. Code I guess is cleaner I guess, but it is way more muddled and overproduced...and not in a good way. Disturbed as an example have a hardcore but very overproduced sound that still rocks. Where is the energy on this album? Where is the energy-oozing, testosterone-induced sex-rock that Danko has been on all previous albums in one form or another? I really think the album is overproduced, but it's WHAT it's overproducing that's the really big problem. The songs, lyrics, and vocals are weak and I can't figure out why. Danko has one of the best voices in rock and his growly voice is one of the band's trademarks. Why would they want to lose that let alone produce the fuck out of it to take even more energy out. Overproduction reduces energy and the songs don't have much to begin with. Anyway, I forced myself thru the album twice...each listen about a month apart. I couldn't even make it through the 2nd listen all the way and was just getting angry. Anyway, it honestly took me a few months before I could even listen to my old Danko stuff including a bunch of live gigs kuz it just reminded me of what Danko should be. I'd understand if the new album was radically different AND ROCKED or had something good to add to today's music. I really dont' think it does and I really do think that it sounds very amateurish. I feel like I'm calling Jesus a punk by writing this, but just thought I'd put in my two cents. I'm still a Danko Jones fan but Code is a HUGE asterisk/open sore for me. p.s. How's this album selling and are they really bringing in more fans than previous albums did? It's almost tolerable if so. I just honestly can't see how Code will make fans tho. DJFL

I agree with the above post,Code is my least fave cd.The title track being the best.Danko's rasping vocals are lacking, song quality isn't up to much, saving it are the bonus tracks. After getting my hands on it when it first came out and listening to it for a while, hoping it would grow on me,it still stinks!!!!
