I met Jake E. Lee and the guys in King's X. They're a kick ass band by the way, and just released a new album called "Ogre Tunes" I'm also a big fan of King's X and liking that new album. I didn't really meet them, but when I was standing at the front row at a concert, Doug Pinnick leaned forward and handed me his pick!!!

I've been lucky to meet my three favourite bands (or at least the brains behind said bands): Guided By Voices, Pavement and Van Halen. I've got to drink post-show beers with Bob Pollard and the rest of GBV on a couple of occasions but I think it's coolest when you meet them when they're "in public" as opposed to "at the venue." So, my fave Uncle Bob meeting was in Northampton, Mass, last year when we were checking out of our hotel after seeing them the night before (and readying to drive to NY to see them that night). We're signing out and there's Bob . . . pulling his luggage. He saw our Canadian licence plate and was so appreciative and we hung out at his car for a bit, cracked some jokes, and he signed some CDs for me. Same goes for meeting Stephen Malkmus. While it was at a concert (the Reading Festival a bunch of years ago) it wasn't like meeting him at a Malkmus or Pavement show coz we ran into him in a sea of 60,000 people and I happened to be wearing my Who The Fuck Is Stephen Malkmus? shirt. Tres cool. They loved that we had North American accents. Met Van Halen at a record-signing session in Toronto. Ain't exactly like meeting them "out there" but it rocked indeed and our rowdiness got Michael Anthony out of his seat yelling "I'm partying with these guys!!" all the while giving us the metal salute.
That's all.

GBV seems to have forgotten Oasis, Garbage, Headstones, Danko, Sloan and I'm sure a few others along the way.
Met my fav - Dave Grohl - on a couple occasions. Once at an autograph session in NYC in 1999 and I mentioned I was Canadian to which he replied "you going to see Sloan tonight?" and of course, after picking up my jaw off the floor, I told him I was indeed. Hung out there for a bit - amazing guy, as nice as everyone says he is at minimum. He was with Melissa Auf Der Mar (girlfriend at the time) and I basically ignored her to chat with Dave. HA! Then chatted with him outslde Lee's this year.

My dad saw Dennis Farina on the street but he didn't say anything. Dennis touched his arm in a silent thank you for the recognition. No joke.

I don't I've ever really met any celebrities... Oh yeah, I met Lee Towers in the park when I was really young, haha. You dutchies should know him. My aunt thought it would be cool if she got me an autograph as well. Oh and ex-Feyenoord John de Wolf used to run his laps where I live, so I used to see him quite regularly. So no big shots I guess, but hoping to meet Danko and the other guys in March!

Sheila, you met Brian Setzer? Nice, did you actually talk to him, if so, what's he like?

brian setzer is a short, well-dressed (obviously), well-spoken, sweet fella. i used to work/run a smaller club in milwaukee (the most people i think we ever had at a show was somewhere around 500 or so, and that was obscenely packed) so i met a lot of people. some of the bands would stay at our house, and the promoter and i would usually take bands out for dinner/drinks after early shows. i know i've seen something like 600 shows in those three years, and that was just at work. lucky me, unlucky ears, eh? brian setzer didn't play at my club, but did play at a festival where a friend of mine does sound every year, so i got the pimp "sitting on the side of the stage with the soundboard/free beer back stage" kinda seats. at any rate, he was rad, i want every pair of shoes that man owns, and if you get to see him with his orchestra, you should leap and shake your ass at the opportunity!

Hey, sheila, I was going to remark on you meeting Setzer, but loudmouth beat me to it! I'm a huge fan of everything that man has done, from the Stray Cats to his orchestra. He doesn't do anything that isn't cool. He may be the best guitar player of them all. He always seems to be a genuine real person, so I've always thought it would be a gas to have a drink with him. I also like that he never follows the "industry trends" and has always done his own thing. I really respect that. Hey, did you tell Fred Durst that he's an asshole?

it's true. brian setzer is a delightful man, and truly i've never seen anyone work a crowd like he does, and i've seen him more than a few times.
and no, sir, i didn't tell fred durst to fuck off, but i did steal a twelve pack of their beer and take off within just a few minutes. he *is* a wanker...a short, misogynistic, balding wanker. i was there on an onion newspaper promo kinda thing, and, i kid you not, he had the roadies going through the crowd handing out girls only backstage passes. lucky me and holy fucking wow, eh? sheila

screech is/was an interesting fellow. a friend of mine was his manager for a while, and they used to come into the bar i slung drinks at quite often. he's alright. he's kinda the guy who comes in, orders a drink, and then instead of having his cash out ready to pay, makes you tell him what he owes, as though you might not charge him because he was "saved by the bell," so to speak. he dated a girl i knew (and i can't even imagine what that was like), and he was in some band, don't remember the name, that he used to try and recruit my boyfriend at the time to drum for. it was a bit surreal. he was quite nice to me, but i did see him be less than charming to the people around, etc. etc. and i think i'm gonna leave it at that. he isn't so scrawny anymore, and while he looks quite similar to what he used to, it was still occasionally hard not to make bad mr. belding jokes. i think he moved to new jersey. xo, sheila
