Every year in August our sleepy little Nova Scotia town comes alive with a 4 day music jubilee. This year some of the top acts include Melanie Doane, Crush, Jimmy Swift Band, but for me the highlight band was the Northern Pikes. After an eight year break-up these guys got back together a year or so ago, and they didn't disappoint. Displaying their amazing vocal skills they were worth the price of admission alone. The Pikes have just released a new cd, sounds like they are back to stay. Check em out if you get the chance.

I thought this link would lead me to Danko Jones' great rawkin performance from Mike Bullard's show, unfortunately it appears to be unavailable, but there is a more than one hour concert by the Pikes, check it out, look just above JC's head warning: this band uses harmonies ;D: www.music.sympatico.ca/fa/dankojones/bio.html#

warning: this band uses harmoniesAre you saying we tend to favour riff-oriented rock over the more melodic stuff, rocky? ;D Observation noted. I do tend to agree with Danko when he says folk based music puts him to sleep, but it's not all bad. Dude, are you familiar with Halifax's own Joel Plaskett Emergency? I must admit I haven't heard the Pikes in years, but I do like JPE for what it is. Check it out.

Shame, shame, shame, hate to admit it Tidy, but i have yet to hear Joel Plaskett Emergency ...certainly have heard about them. Of course there is so little talent down here, that's a given ;D...It is extremely frustrating to spread the word about the sensational Danko Jones, almost a total exercise in futility. Not that i'm not trying ; I know one gurl who absolutely loves them, but i haven't seen her around for a long time, oh well, she prolly moved to Toronto
