I'm not sure why you guys think that BAL is more "polished" than WSB. To me, I think WSB sounds like more time and money was spend on the production. I think the difference was in the writing, or rather what songs made the cut and the producer that was behind the mixing console. In WSB, JC's bass definitely takes a back seat ride there with more guitars up front.

I wash my hands from this, because I hate ppl who keeps arguing about music. Its the same with food you know. No matter how much somebody knows about cooking. The End.

bah. of course there is no right or wrong when it comes to "liking" something but that doesn't mean it's not worth discussing. it's always subjective. hell, someone who doesn't like the beatles can't be "wrong" -- even though the majority of the world wouldn't flinch in calling him so.
"one man's ceiling is another man's floor"
to these ears, born a lion is too glossy and way glossier than we sweat blood. and although i think the born a lion cover art is "better" the professionalism of it versus wsb's (indie-looking) cover art i think it symbolic of what's inside, as far as sheen goes.
above all, we sweat blood has songs that my ears happen to agree with far more. or something like that.

of course there is no right or wrong when it comes to "liking" something but that doesn't mean it's not worth discussing. Word But I don't think BAL sounds glossy ;D On WSB all the tracks have the same basic sound allthough they're all completely different songs. The last 3 songs on Bal on the other hand have a completely different sound from the rest, which has probably got to do with recoring/mixing in another studio. Therefore I think BAL has a sort of rough edge (& a bit of untidynes) that WSB lacks. & PAPA is 1 of my alltime favorites!! I love (the kind of primitive) gimmick they do with the guitar switching from left to right & that riff just gives me the shivers. It doesn't sound overproduced. I think it may BE but it doesn't SOUND that way! There are songs I could do without though...when does somebody starts a topic about that... ;D

I didn't mean that ppl couldn't DISCUSS about music. Its just I hate ppl who ARGUE about it. They're two different things.

sure, but "argument" or "discussion" is as much interpretation as the thing that's being "argued" or "discussed."
i call all this discussion, someone else might call it argument.

How about "heated discussion"? I don't mind this stuff at all - this IS a forum for all things Danko including arguments about their music. I LOVE Papa, which I always thought was a cool idea for a song - Danko identifying with that kid in 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone" all grown up to be just like dear ole dad. Plus, the guitar riff in the chorus kicks ass! Geebz, I've heard the unedited version of Love Is Unkind on an old bootleg and I now understand what you've been bitching about. I can ONLY IMAGINE what that song must have been like live! I still would like a studio version of Mountain, but not if they do that kind of chop job to it. Somebody tell Danko that we fans love it when he rants. To us Danko's rants are like Jimi's guitar solos.

hey tidyman, good to hear you heard the *real* love is unkind. where's the bootleg from (what show/where?). Bighairygrinch posted a bootleg from a 1998 Chicago show. I could probably send you an mp3 of Love Is Unkind from it if you wanted. Sound quality not great but you can hear Danko running his mouth fine.

Okay milkei will be my lab rat. I'm gonna try to email it to her. Sometimes if the file is too big I can't send it that way. If it works, I'll get your addy and send it to you too Geebz.
EDIT: No dice - the file is too big for email. That means we have to get you that file some other way.

I still reckon I'm Alive... is best but of the two proper albums, well it's helluva tough. WSB is all round better but BAL has better stand out tracks, esp Lovercall and Love Is Unkind is pure genius, even if it has been hacked to hell (i wouldn't know, i haven't hear the live version). I think Papa is pure filler though, the only dankotrack i don't like.

Right, I went for 'Born A Lion', but it was tough. I've listened to 'We Sweat Blood' a few times now and it keeps growing and growing on me, but 'Born A Lion' edges it me thinks. As for 'I'm Alive and On Fire', it is excellent, but I heard 'Born A Lion' before that one, so I am dear to it!

Good stuff, Paz. Born A Lion has taken the lead for (I think) the first time since this little poll started. Something to remember though; Me and Sac voted for Born A Lion and Alive and On Fire respectively - but if we could have a do-over we'd both pick We Sweat Blood. That would make the new tally Alive 3, BAL 7, and WSB 9. I told you you started this thread too soon, Sac!

Oooh, its all neck and neck now. It would be nice to see all albums finish on the same number of votes, because they all ROCK, hehehe ;D But yeah Tidyman, We Sweat Blood needs more credit for being such an awesome album and one of the best in 2003!
