There is no question that Avril Lavigne is now easily the most exposed Canadian female musical artist. Personally the jury's still out for me, but given her tender age, I certainly admire her accomplishments.

Oh God, here we go:) You're gonna wish you hadn't got me started on this. I'm happy for Avril's success. She started out performing at many local functions with a group of (I use the term lightly) musicians I know. She entered and won a contest on a local music station by singing karaoke to a Shania Twain song. The prize? An appearance on stage with Shania at the Corel Center to sing a duet. After that things skyrocketed. There had to be some serious strings pulled. She doesn't write her own music contrary to popular belief. The fact that her name appears in the writing credits on her album is nothing more than an industry courtesy and a condition of her deal which allows her more royalties. She is a manufactured star. A face and a decent voice turned into a star by LA Reid, the NY starmaker. They dress her up, they buy her songs and they give her some musicians and a producer and voila, a star is born. Sorry, but the talent is minimal at best. She's no Alanis Morrisette, the tortured lyricist venting her anger at the world through her music. She's just a teenage kid in the right place at the right time. Sorry for the rant, but sometimes it's hard to swallow all the bull that's printed about her in the local media here when you know better.

HA! I KNEW SHE WAS A FRAUD! I have never really liked her. I always thought she was a princess in punk clothing. Her voice is mediocre and so easily replaceable. She is young though, so maybe she will grow into an entertainer, but for now I truly believe she is a 1 album wonder. And sorry to hate on her because she is young and all, but in her interviews, she seems like a real airhead! Although I'm sure anyone could come off sounding that way with the clips a station chooses to play. But I know they have a soft spot for her at much, so she probably just is an airhead!

The latest rumour re Avril.....shé dating Fred Whateverhisnameis of Limp Bizkit. He's 39, she's 18. Apparently Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera were too old for him:) The Lavigne's must be having a collective stroke as we speak.

I cannot resist reply to this topic. I totally agree with Kevin. Here's my opinion : Avril is a product. She wears what is told to, and sings songs that others compose and she isn't even a real guitar player, or else she would play guitar live to all her songs, that's what "rockstars" do ; in the recording of the album, she played guitar on ONE song - that does say alot about Avril as a musician. So basically the industry is sending out the "avril did it all alone" version and I never quite bought that, much less with her "i'm punk-rock and i'm not pop" comments. It might be a rude awakening, but, Avril, your music is pop-rock. The outfit doesn't make the person, so it's pretty silly for her to claim her music is punk when one listens to the album and it's pop-rock music. It's not that there's anything wrong with pop-rock, it's just that if you must label something, at least do it right I'm sure she's a very sweet young girl (and bla bla bla), but fame and everyone worshipping her like she was an incredible musician is getting to her (air)head, or else she wouldn't say the absurd stuff she does. And she has the most amazing blue eyes, but see her face without make-up To me, basically she got lucky by having a voice and a nice face, because a pseudo-punk-rocking teen product was what the industry was looking for and she was available to be molded into that. Longevity doesn't come to mind when I think of her, i mean, looks can deceive, and people might be blinded by her "clothing style" and "beauty" and all the "hype", but they can't be blind forever. Or so i hope

Hm, I have a deep-rooted dislike for Avril Lavigne. I remember first hearing her first song (that would be comlicated) on the radio in Italy during my Holiday. I absolutely loved it. Then came the horrendous moment when I came back to Holland and saw that clip on TV. It made me want to throw up. It was a disgusting farce. It was just too much. I found it offensive. She's just this populair preppy girl that happens to be used as an alternative idol. She represents everything I hate in the music industry. Even the alternative scene needs pretty faces now. Blergh.

As for Avril, who spells it Boi? And why do I know this!?!

What's more important than her music is whether or not she's hot, but I've never found her all that hot either. That dude from Sum 41 can keep her (like I had a shot otherwise.) EDIT: I just realized I never voted in this thread so now I get to....SWEET!!
