Alright, first off I found out about this gig at the last minute. The site here lists it as St John and I figured it was in Newfoundland...no WAY is the band coming to this small-ass hick town. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. Anybody who knows me knows I amy the world's biggest Danko fan. I'll put my fanaticism up against anybody on the site...especially that Tidyman dude aka Kid No-Hops.
Anyway, the gig was at a pub/restauranty kinda place with a capacity of 200. I personally got 10 tix sold and what a freaking show. The band did NOT disappoint. I dunno if anybody out there expected anything different from the best band in the damn world, but yet AGAIN another fuckin AWESOME show. This is the first gig I've seen where they're playin songs from SITE, and was kinda apprehensive as to how the new stuff'd sound...especially the title track which is possibly my favorite song of all time. Plus I'd never seen that Dan "Sooooooooul Train" Cornelius on drums. As for the songs, particularly SITE, they fuckin rocked. I dunno why I was questioning it. As for Mr Cornelius, dude is Really solid. He's a pretty big guy and there is no question who is in charge of those drums. He treated them like a red-headed step child...just banged the Holy Hell outta them. As for Danko, no he obviously doesn't smack himself anymore during mountain and there's no complaints there. To make up for it, my sis smacked me across the face when Danko woulda. Danko himself didn't see it...even tho we were right in front of him...but their tour manager did and gave us the horns. Great fuckin times at a great fuckin gig. I think it's a great idea too btw. Danko can't slap himself for us anymore, but think of how it'd be if we all did instead. It fits and we all know it...I'm just sayin...
My sis actually flew up from Calgary to see the gig and it was great times. I bought us each a shirt and hat...there's new merch since the last tour y'all. After the gig, JC signed ALL the crap we brought and bought, including our hats. Danko and Soul Train didn't come out for autographs which definitely was disappointing, but not too big a deal. Probably the smallest venue they've played in years in probably the smallest town they've played in years and a band that rarely takes a day off...I understand wantin to take the night after the gig off. As for JC, the dude is fuckin awesome. Seriously, a class fuckin act. He remembered us from the Seattle/Eugene gigs from last year, gave me his pick, signed all our shit and talked with us for quite a while...despite our obvious inebriation. I had to run my girlfriend back home and left my sis at the gig. Some big, weird hicks...which is what Fort Saint John is Full of...were apparently bein weird and tryin to get freaky with her. JC saw it, stepped in, and got her away from them. Bought her a beer, and waited with her til I got back. I don't know if anybody here has a younger sister, but when somebody else is lookin out for your family when you're not there, that means the whooole fuckin world. Thanks dude. You went out of your way to be pure class and that will never be forgotten. PS, the newer look/longer hair is awesome. Rock star all the way...some chicks after the gig were sayin how hot the bass player is and my sis just smiled.
Anyway, we're seein the band again in Calgary next month and I WILL have my damn hat signed by the other guys by any means necessary. I'll show the bellboy at their hotel some skin if I hafta, and I'm not a pretty man so I hope it doesn't come down to that.
The gig as always was a 10/10 and if there's another band out there who thinks they're better, fuck you. Ain't no way. This is the best band in the world, kids...straight up rock and roll. See em as much as you can.
