okay...i'll share the thread with you then! .seriously, it's about time there was a thread on here about a UK show. i haven't made one in the past 'cos there's too few Brits on here and if i'd been the only one here who'd been to a particular UK show then i'd get no feedback. if i'd been the only one posting,it would've been a sad, lonely little thread . we've got all the mainland Europeans and Canadians here, who get all the fab headlining shows, extra treats and chats with the band etc.i find their gig reports and photo's exciting 'cos it helps me imagine being there. i assumed they might find my meagre contributions about UK support slots a little lacklustre in comparison. but recently i've been reading posts where people are saying it's a shame for any Danko gig to go unreported..i started to feel a bit guilty .i have such a great time at Danko gigs so i'm going to make more effort to write about that in future!

i don't know who's supporting; didn't get that much info. i saw the gig posted up on the myspaz page last week...my eyes nearly popped out!it didn't say UK though, and i've got so used to seeing 'London, Ontario' in Danko gig listings i wasn't sure if we were actually getting a show here in the UK.and 'cos i'd received no details via djml or myspace bulletin i messaged the admin of Danko's myspace page for more info. i didn't get a reply though so i mailed a good contact who let me know about the link for tickets on the official site.of course i hadn't looked at the site for a while 'cos it's not due to be active again 'til early december.thought i'd post about the gig in case anyone else hadn't spotted it. he also told me there's a possibility of a UK tour around late april/may, if not then maybe a spot on a summer festival ...hope he doesn't mind me talking about this! when the website's back up and they've sorted out the mailing list we'll get more news!

and yes..do bring a camera. i've noticed London venues are very picky about what they'll let you take in though...so think of a way to smuggle it! meeting up is a good idea... i usually travel up to Danko gigs on my own and get talking to random Danko fans anyway. it would be good if anyone's up for hanging out after the gig too.it's odd 'cos even though they've got a lot of fans here i'm usually the only one hanging out by the bus talking to them and the crew after the show. i'd like to have a few more fans there 'cos we'd get a more relaxed exchange of banter with the band that way . we could get some fun pics too .i've got a better camera now so i might come up with something actually postable!

I need a freaking Tardis. I would love to see a show in London.

Don't need a Tardis for that, Doctor Wh(l)o(es). There's a train that goes through a pipe under the water to England, and even airoplanes!

I know, but those cost money. And there's not enough in our Tardis piggybank (yes, we actually have one) to cover that, unfortunately... Everybody have fun with the Christmas special tonight by the way. ;D

with the way public transport is in the UK, Loes could probably get to London more easily, and probably a lot more comfortably than i do from Cardiff, .i think my spine still remembers the day long return journey i took home to Cardiff from Brighton via London last year . in the morning after the Danko gig,got on the first available coach back to London after checking out of Brighton's stinkiest hotel. this took me on the 'scenic' route of south England, including a nice long stop-off at the airport. got into London late in the evening, made my way to the Greenline station and had to wait a few hours for my 'megabus' to Cardiff. now the Megabus company runs nice comfty coaches during the day, but at night you get the honour of riding a bone-shaking, retro double decker city bus, complete with hard-metal-and-flimsy bit of padding-bench seats...oh, and no toilet . these buses are designed for short commuter journeys, not 4 -5 hours on the M4! i thought of our little travelling Danko family on their plush tourbus, being able to get some kip in their snuggly bunks . there was no way i could rest up, so i stayed awake listening to music, then looking longingly out of window for the first sight of bi-lingual road signs. then there it was.... ;D the Severn bridge had never looked so beautiful. i had been listening to Danko Jones on the way, now i had the other Jones in my head...Tom, that is, as the sign 'Croeso y Cymru' (welcome to Wales) came into view, 'it's good to touch the green, green grass of home' or as my aching backside would say,'it's good to get my poor, sore arse back home' . finally rolled into Cardiff in the early hours of wednesday morning, knowing that the DJo had got over to mainland Europe and played another gig by the time i got home

might as well make this a belated blog for my eastpack tour adventures of last year! i had such a good time on my 'Danko holiday' (or as i sometimes call it , my 'DJo dirty weekend'), went up to London to see them in Brixton on saturday and got there a few hours before the doors opened so hung out outside watching the skateboarders in the skatepark across the road and local asbo's aiming fireworks at their neighbours balconies (in the community spirit of Guy Fawkes Night.) took a little walk and on the way back round saw several silhouettes in the dark coming towards me. and oh ,the way they walked..'strut, turn the streets into your catwalk!' just knew it was the DJo Rock Gang before i even saw their faces...then they all smiled and said hello. once i got into the venue the killjoy doorstaff ransacked my travel bag and tried to confiscate the small stash of water and fruit juice they found in spite of my protests that it was for travel purposes. eventually they let me in but i was told my ticket was balcony only.but then i fondly remember the victory of legging it past security to get into the crowd at the front of the stage ;D;that's after being stuck up on the balcony for Disco Ensemble's set and being told i wasn't allowed to stand up or dance up there...sod that! >:(i spotted some lads with Danko t-shirts, went and said hello, and hatched plans to get down where the action was.we all made it eventually, found eachother, but lost eachother again in the expanding moshpit . great show and great night! especially liked being shoved around amongst gorgeous women, and the gentle goodlooking guys who were being considerate to their fellow moshers, getting all sweet and protective with me,making sure i was okay (yeh,i'm okay..just put your arm around me ,) oh there are some advantages to being petite..got a few kisses on the cheek . then i went down to Brighton sunday morning..Danko would be playing there on monday night but i'd found out that the mighty Gossip were playing Brighton's Concorde 2 on the sunday night so i travelled down early with the intention of seeing them too. the venue is fabulous, a sort of converted old glass pavillion on the seafront. i was told the tickets had sold out, but knowing i'd still be able to hear and see something through the glass i returned later... to find they had found a ticket for me! yay! ;D and well, as my Mother would say, 'dip me in chocolate and throw me to the lesbians',( quite literally in this case )it was a great gig, Beth was incredible, and flirted with the audience in her soft southern purr. 'come to mama' indeed!

i left the Gossip gig that night, falling in love with Brighton and psyched to see Danko the next day. i walked along the promenade watching spectacular fireworks still going off over the water, making my way back to this horrible hotel, the only cheap vacancy i'd been able to find. i couldn't get a room in the friendly, bohemian aussie-run backpacker hostel i'd found in the afternoon, so i'd explored a little and eventually found what looked like a nice, reasonably priced b&b type hotel. i was given a key to this grotty, unheated attic room with soggy wallpaper hanging from the damp, mouldy ceiling.the water in the taps was freezing, the tv and bed both broken, and the smell of mildew only just masked the smell of the blocked toilet down the hall. i told them i was allergic to mould and asked for a different room ...the one they gave me was marginally better; no visible damp but an overwhelming smell of tramp's coat/smelly dog/ crusty sock which pointed to a rodent problem. :(the bed was also dressed in a nice blim-burnt duvet. oh well,at least it was warm.i propped the window open using a stick which the staff had thoughtfully left for their guests comfort, put my bag up on a dresser out of rat's way, sprayed some deodorant around and sniffed the bed.the sheets had been changed but i would be sleeping in a protective layer of tights and Danko Jones t-shirt just in case. funnily enough, i barely cared about the state of my lodgings after that gig... i was having a good time! i got a nice sleep after laying there pondering ...what kind of incredible rock'n'roll monster child Danko, Beth Ditto and a turkey baster would produce. ;D

Aha!...I know a band (Inferno from North Wales) who are in need of tickets. I'd met them and few of their family members at the Manchester gig back in '06, they're a great bunch and massive Danko fans . I messaged them on myspaz a few days back to invite them to the pre-gig meetup, but they hadn't even known about the gig...now they're absolutely gutted about not having tickets . Thanks for letting us know, Beers! I just messaged them..now they've got a little glimmer of hope!
